Thread: "You Lie"

    "You Lie"

When I heard about this tonight I just could not believe it. For those that don't know the President was shouted down by a GOP congressman while giving his speech tonight.

    "You Lie"

What makes this totally outragous (The disrespect to the office is bad enough) is that had this been a white president it would have never happened.

As opposed to 8 years of Bush=Hitler or bush lied. We tolerated the left calling Bush a liar in the house, in the press, and to his face. Bush was called a monkey, a moron, a draft dodger . CBS "produces" false documents that cost Dan Rather his career. The congressman was right Obama is a liar and on at least 7 points he made last night not the least being taxpayers insuring illegals. He chose the totally wrong place to do it but he admitted it was wrong and apologized and what happened to "Dissent is Patriotic" or does it only apply to the left?
Disrespect for the Office of the President? get real no one has had to tolerate the abuse heaped on him more then Bush.

No congressman ever shouted down Bush while giving a speech. No matter how or what anyone feels about the issue or whether they believe that Obama lied or not the fact is no one would have dared do that to a white president. Funny thing this guy was from South Carolina....anyone want to bet that his approval rating is going through the roof in his district today!

No matter, the American people will judge this behavior and decide.

What's funny was there was no true apology from Wilson. He said he did what the house leadership told him to do and then went on to defend his actions.

It's just another version of "I saw this black guy with this white woman and my emotions just took over.

By the way, what established well known group of any political stripe was equating Bush to Hitler? I know of none. Of course you are going to have your fringe on both sides saying things like that......Is this what you are attempting to use?

Bush was shouted down numerous times during his tour any time he tried to make the case for Iraq the yelling and accusations flew. As far as Bush=Hitler one only had to see a war protest to see them. Bush was vilified by the press and invicerated by guys like Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather or the supreme idiots of network tv, Chris Matthews and uber douche Keith Olberman When was the last time a national news anchor had the temerity to "produce" documents he knew were a lie to discredit a sitting President? I was born under Kenndy, they said his alligience to the pope would supercede his oath to the country, lived thru Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton (hardly a beacon of virtue) Bush2 and now Obama. I have never seen the kind of piling on that Bush got., and I thought Nixon was brutalized. Look Im not a Bush apologist the guy made mistakes of epic proportions ( the medi-care drug bill for instance) but to infer that he was not attacked at every possible angle from the left is disingenuous at best. The congressman made an apology and the President graciously accepted it. I do however think the forum was in poor taste and in responce to the other writer I trust that this congressmens campaign coffers are about to overflow.

You're just throwing out names. No examples from these groups? Also, anybody can photoshop pictures like you show. That's no big deal.

Repeat: Bush was never disrespected by a member of congress on the floor of the congress.......

That's what this issue is about.

By the way Bush will go down in history as our worst President. We are just learning about the tip of the iceberg. The lastest story, raising the terror alert before the election is just another example of abuse of office from the Bush admin.

    The point BD is making....

While many previous Presidents had some serious detractors and did indeed get shouted down when giving speeches (and then the point that was not made about Bush but should be - he DID get people shouting at him...even AFTER his handlers made sure he was talking to a sympathetic crowd - things like removing people or not allowing them in if they were wearing t-shirts that said something that indicated they were not necessarily in favor of Bush's policies - so how bad do you have to be to be shouted down in a pre-screened audience)

But, BD's point and WHY Wilson's shout out of "You Lie!" is news is that while there HAVE been instances of even fist fights breaking out in Congress (before the Civil War - granted...but they did happen), there has not been an instance where a President was making a speech or addressing Congress (in this case, BOTH Houses) where the legislators were anything but polite.

This decorum is part of the tradition of Congress and symbolizes that there are 3 branches of the US government - the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial - and while separate - they DO show respect for each other.

It is also part of the Congressional decorum and manners that the President is treated like an honored guest and dignitary - and this was applied even to FDR by the legislators who would not have crossed the street to spit on him if he had been on fire.

So, in one short moment, Wilson broke a VERY long tradition and showed a total lack of etiquette required of his office.

Respect is given to another not to show another something about themselves - but rather to show another something about yourself.

Wilson showed more about himself than he ever could have shown about any President.
