Thread: summer get together?

    summer get together?

In ginosifu's new years res. I suggested a get together but out of respect did not want to highjack his thread so this one will bring up the idea of the KFO forum members getting together for a weekend of meeting, sharing, demos, teaching and possibly fighting, cage matt and ring.

I suggested this because there are so many people out here with loads of skill, knowlege wisdom and experence, I find it silly why we all shouldnt benefit from exchanging our knowedlge with each other.

I think that the board will also function smoother if we met face to face and really got to know each other on a personal basis.
It would stop the fighting, bickering and trolling..... well maybe not he trolling LOl but for sure it would shed postitve light on this thing we all love and cherish................ kung fu.

I suggested my academy simply because of its size, 7,500 sq feet, locker room and showers and location to Niagara falls, we can even sleep there if needed 2 flat screen tvs, ping pong table and X box. LOL it keeps the kids busy and we do a a over night camp 3 times a year....

At night and or sunday we could site see the falls and kill 2 birds with 1 stone but I am willing to travel if someone has a better idea or location. I was thinking spring or summer. what do you think?

i am game, although it would be more harmonious in my eyes to have the meet outside, say like at a state park or campground... somewhere where they will let you drink beer... plus... it's far to stifling in the summer time to be training indoors - heck, i have been going outside nearly every morning these last few months to train outside in the brisk pre-dawn air...

    June / July / August?

Why dont we all start posting our days we can't make because of events. I know everyone has tournaments, wedding aniverseries, summer camps etc etc. I'll start by posting some of mine:

The first weekend in June we have belt / sash testing. Either the second or third weekend in July we have a summer camp. Usually the last weekend in July we go Kuoshu in Baltimore. The first Sunday in August we have kung fu picnic.

These are thing just off the top of my head. Normally me and my sifu get together around now to go over our 2011 schedule.

I would enjoy something like that and would make an effort to attend.

A group of guys may be flying me up to New York for an iron palm seminar around that time and I may be able to coordinate it. If not, New York ends up being a bit far for some of us I would imagine. It may be less expensive and time consuming for some of us who are very far from NY if a more central location could be found...

Im not going to be able to do much outside of the week in June until I graduate. School is my life until then.

But if anyone wants to come meet up, thats where I will be for 12 days. In Albany at the Tai Chi Gala

Not sure when, no dates have been set; theres just a group that is planning to bring me up sometime this summer. Like I said, if we have a date nailed down for something like this, I may be able to coordinate the schedule with the group.

    It will be Southeast NY.

May is fine... does anyone have anything going memorial day weekend? Any time before this would reduce our chances of having anything outside. Not saying that we need to be outside but, it is always nice.

    ED,
I don't think 50 people is a realistic goal. The mantis conference held in Cleveland a few years ago was I believe less than half the many people. It is just very hard to get martial arts, especially instructors, to be able to coordinate their schedules and miss class time at their schools.

However, consider that even five instructors who attend could go back to their schools and influence a few hundred students with the things they may learn at a get together.
