    northern vs southern--what's the diff'?

I don't know very much about Mantis...aside that it looks really cool. What is the difference between southern mantis and northern mantis in regards to technique and style?

    Maybe an answer!

The main diferance between North and south is the northen style use a elaborate footwork like kind of kick and jump southern use a good hand play like wing-chung. The diff is more complicated if you look more seriously. Her my brief explanation .....

    Sorry for my english!

The Northern Legs Southern Hands is inaccurate. Read Adam Hsu's Sword Polisher's Record.

The difference between them is the same as the difference between Wing Chun and Hung Gar--they're different styles, they came to being in different ways by different people.

although adam hsu may have a different opinon, I am simply quoting what has been said for hunderds of years in china. It was not me who said that phrase but many different masters from china.

who said adam sue is correct too!

i like southern mantis better than northern mantis because of the power and hand techniques!

northern mantis hand techniques i find are no good at close range. i maybe wrong but, northern mantis uses throws and sweeps at close distance, right! :)

well as far as 8step goes we have a saying; attack the enemy with the long hand and destroy the emeny with the short hand. which is actually one of our cardinal fighting points!

OKay i will put a rest to this. adam hsu's opinion is HIS opinion.

regarding norhtern mantis, we use a medium range of fighting, forms fast ging, etc...

southern mantsi looks nothing like mantis , but looks like you stuck your hand in an electricity outlet and got shocked. they only have three hand forms and they look weird. They take 2 steps and ther hands come out using ging, power from the ground, very shorthand style with a lto of emphasis on sensivity drills etc, similar to wing chun but southern mantis peoepo'
s heads stick out kinda far, while wing chun people put their head back to keep it alight with the spinal cord to stay connected. I would say that souter mantis hands are better than northern mantis hands BUT that does not mena tha tnorohten mantis hands are bad at all. Norhtenr mantis hands are aacutally better than shaolin because shaolin is more long range than norhtern mantis. northern mantis hand forms are very 2 man oriented , all the 7 star mantis forms have a 2 man version to go long with it, and there is much "sticking".

    go to www.masterginfoonmark.com
I think that's the website and look at his video clips to see what southern mantis looks like, then compare that to norhten mantis. INSTEAD OF SITTING HERE talking with no substnace aruging about the north kicks and the south punches basic blah blah blha, nah mean nephew????

Northern Mantis has an equal amount of short, medium and long range techniques. It's "known" for its long fist, but that's only a part of the system.
