    Bruce Lee not the first

We all as americans believe that bruce lee was the one who introduced gung fu to the american public. But i only truly read this rare book from T.Y. Wong and in there is a photo of him being interviewed by a news lady in 1955, and his gung fu was demo'd on t.v then (1955) years before bruce lee entered the scene.

Pls check out my sigung's website and look at the photo albun sections you'll see the mention of his tv debut.

anyways, so we know that bruce lee wasn't the first to introduce publicly chinese gung fu he was just one of the first few.

That's correct, but Bruce Lee ia arfuably the most successful by tapping into the hollywood machine. David Carridine continues to do a fine job in MA philosophy in Kill bill 2.

I would not say Bruce introduced Kung Fu, but he certainly popularized it. He most likely would not have accomplished this without his movies, so it is primarily a consequence of his charisma, entertaining movies, and good marketing. His teachings and views were not especially unique either. Once again, merely popularized by him because of his notoriety.

Yes, never underestimate the power of advertisments & pop culture. I I were to be asked what is the greatest power tha Bruce Less harnesed - it isn't the 1 inch punch but pop culture - this has given him life beyond the grave.

I don't think he was smart enuf to have planned all this. He was lucky to have good students like Chuck Norris who will not say anything bad about Bruce.

yes, Bruce Lee was and still is a pop culture icon that transcends the borders of countries.

you may ask a persian or arab, (iranian or iraqi), they also know BL.

    in terms of MA

Wing Chun is the most popular Kung Fu style in the world

    it is b/c of him.

Well Jackie Chan also did a lot WC in his movies.

    Thumbs up

Bruce Lee introduced Kung Fu to the world. He spread it everywhere , he had the tools to do it, and used them wisely. Both Bruce and his sons died too soon in this life. Bruce never claimed to be the first to teach Kung Fu to all races.

Movie stars are blessed with the opportunity to spread their M/A abiltiy to the world. Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan, have done this and still are. The 3 of them have lots in common, they set excellent examples of Wude ( M/A ethics) people look up these 3 men, and rightly so.

David did set the stage as one of the first non-Chinese ( half Chinese) to set about life spreading Wude. and Kung Fu. His Kung Fu abilities were not as well known as the other 3, but he did a great job on his series and his life. Sadly his life ended with a sad ending, sex, drugs etc.

I thought the most popular KF style in the world was Yang-style Taiji. Or at least the most-practiced.

But I do agree about his name transcending borders.

Who made the dozens of pretty decent kung fu movies that were out before Bruce Lee ever came out with his? This stuff has been popularized several times over the past 40 or 50 years, and this late surge with Chan is probably the latest. Now comes the Ip Man movie. In China kung fu has been on and off constantly since the silent movies. I have seen dozens of good Chinese made kung fu movies that had been dubbed into English. And long before I ever heard of Bruce.

i didnt know much about bruce lee, i dont know about if he can fight or not, but from his movies u can see he has a lot of message about chinese identity, i think from his movies he had the message that chinese people can b strong too and i think thats cool
people say he sounds arogoant but i think its because in 1960s america he needed to be over assertive to fight discrimination and to fight the "weak passive chinaman" stereotype
