Why Gina Carano is Being Targeted By Trolls on Twitter
BY EMMA NOLAN ON 8/5/20 AT 7:37 AM EDT

MMA champion and actress Gina Carano has had a tumultuous few days on twitter due to controversy over her recent tweets as the hashtag #Ginacaranoisoverparty began trending on August 5.

The 38-year-old Haywire and The Mandalorian star has been called "racist" and a "bootlicker" and it seemingly began when she posted the famous black and white photo showing a collective Nazi Salute, where one man isn't saluting.

She later posted an article about the photo, writing: "Heartbreaking and powerful story of a man who changed his ways for the woman he loved.. love changes the world, one person at a time."

On August 4, Carano tweeted: "In my experience, screaming at someone that they are a racist when they are indeed NOT a racist & any post and/or research you do will show you those exact facts. Then I'm sorry, these people are not 'educators'... they are cowards and bullies."

This came after she posted the black and white photo which seemed to spur on a slew of tweets targeting the actress.

One Twitter user, defending Carano wrote: "Gina Carano is being bullied & harassed by SJW trolls. They're calling her a 'racist bootlicker' & demanding she 'Say ACAB/BLM' to prove she's not racist. Gina is having none of it, calling them cowards for trying to bully her off social media."

They added, sharing screenshots of tweets targeting Carano: "Bot accounts harassing Gina Carano will post the same message within 1 minute of each other. Matching profiles with: 'She/Her - BLM/ACAB' bios that change name & layout. Actual proof of someone using bots to bully a female Star Wars actress."

However, many accused Carano of blocking accounts that support the Black Lives Matter movement. As one user wrote: "Unfollow gina carano. she blocks people for saying BLM and has a defense squad of neo-liberals and right-wing *******s #notmycaradune #ginacaranoisoverparty."

Others are claiming they are trying to "educate" Carano, with one person tweeting: "These aren't trolls, these are people trying to educate you so you can get on the right side of history."

Carano responded to say that those tweeting her are not "educators" but "bullies and cowards."

However, Carano appears to be unfazed by the attention and address the "trolls" in a tweet yesterday, sharing a photo saying "the trash took itself out" and writing: "Dear trolls.. pssst..(oh but make sure you keep checking in from all of your other 12 fake accounts). Cowards."

'The Mandalorian' Star Gina Carano Fired Amid Social Media Controversy
6:38 PM PST 2/10/2021 by Ryan Parker , Aaron Couch

    Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images

UTA has also dropped the actor, who will no longer be part of the 'Star Wars' galaxy.
Gina Carano will not be returning to The Mandalorian or the Star Wars galaxy after sharing a post on social media inferring that being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.

"Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future," a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. "Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

Carano has also been dropped as a client by UTA, an agency spokesperson confirms.

On Wednesday, the hashtag #FireGinaCarano was trending following an Instagram post from the outspoken conservative actor and former mixed martial artist which was met with severe backlash. The post has since been deleted, but screenshots were widely shared by users on social media who called for her firing from the hit Disney+ Star Wars show.

This is not the first time Carano, who played former Rebel Alliance soldier Cara Dune on The Mandalorian, has been the focus of social media ire for her political comments. Last November, she issued contentious tweets, one in which she mocked mask-wearing amid the novel coronavirus pandemic and another in which she falsely suggested voter fraud occurred during the 2020 presidential election.

“They have been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today was the final straw,” a source with knowledge of Lucasfilm’s thinking tells THR.

The Mandalorian debuted on Disney+ in November 2019 and helped power the streaming service to impressive subscription numbers. Carano's Cara Dune became an instant fan favorite, with the actor praised for bringing a calm strength to the role. But her tweets have also made her a controversial figure among Star Wars fandom.

According to sources, Lucasfilm planned to unveil Carano as the star of her own Disney+ series during a December investor's day presentation but scrapped those plans following her November tweets. Multiple Mandalorian spinoffs are in the works from executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, including Rangers of the New Republic, which could have potentially starred Carano.

But after the latest round of social media posts, the decision to cut ties with the actor came swiftly.

Carano came up in the world of MMA, and has appeared in high-profile projects, such as Deadpool and Fast & Furious 6. Steven Soderbergh cast her in 2011's Haywire, a film that launched her acting career following a straight-to-DVD project.

Her rep could not be immediately reached for comment.

Feb. 10, 8:15 p.m. Updated to note UTA had dropped the actor.

    More cancellations

I hear so much about 'cancel culture' but frankly, if Tiger Claw fired me for supporting Falun Gong, which would potentially harm TC sales, I'd wouldn't say I'd been 'cancelled'. That would be a dumb ass mistake on my part.

We have had issues with Falun Gong.

Disney Just Cancelled A Gina Carano Episode That Was Already Filmed
By DOUG NORRIE | 1 DAY AGO

Gina Carano isn’t done getting canceled by Disney yet. Though she’s been fully removed from the Star Wars universe and won’t be coming back anytime soon, the studio is still working to remove her from work she already put in. Think of this as additional canceling, making sure they can move on from the actress without having to face any additional backlash going forward. That’s because apparently Disney also scrapped an episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls that featured the actress.

According to early info for the series, Gina Carano was set to appear on episode six of Running Wild with Bear Grylls and it had already been filmed. The actress and host had both previously shared their excitement on social media about the episode. Carano tweeted that they spent time in the Dolomite Mountains in Italy and apparently things had gone rather smoothly. This was back in early January.

But those plans have been scrubbed by at least Disney who has no plans to air the Gina Carano show. Running Wild with Bear Grylls is a Discovery Channel property though Disney+ does stream the series on the platform as well. But after their high-profile split with the actress, the company has no apparent desire to reopen anything close to ties with her going forward. They have decided to remove that episode from this season’s lineup. So it wasn’t just getting canceled Carano from Star Wars, they don’t want her appearing anymore on the platform on other projects either.

Running Wild with Bear Grylls is a popular Discovery Channel show that has the titular host bringing on different celebrities to participate in a variety of survival and extreme activities. Over the years a number of high-profile folks have jumped on board like Zac Efron, Kate Winslet, Ben Stiller, and Channing Tatum. Plus, there’s been quite a bit of Disney/ Marvel crossover as well with Brie Larson and David Bautista coming on and Anthony Mackie set to make an appearance this coming season. Gina Carano was one of those folks planned as well too in what would have likely been a cool episode considering the actress’s athletic background.

It’s unclear if Discovery plans on airing the episode on their own streaming service, though early looks at the episode guide make it appear they are moving away from the Gina Carano as well. Originally she’d been slated for that sixth episode but now that’s going to be Danny Trejo instead.

Gina Carano, of course, was all the talk of cancel culture within the last few months because of her much-publicized ouster from the Star Wars franchise on Disney+. There she played Cara Dune on the wildly popular The Mandalorian series through the first two seasons. And apparently, her role was set to expand in a major way with Rangers of the New Republic. But all of that came to an end when she tweeted a comparison between the plight of Jewish people in the Holocaust to the treatment of modern-day Republicans. That culminated months-long speculation about her future with Star Wars and Disney because of other controversial statements. She was removed from her role.

Though she picked up a new gig with The Daily Wire, apparently the canceling of Gina Carano by Disney isn’t over yet. She won’t be making her survival appearance on the platform and that’s just a further sign there’s no intention of ever bringing her back.

    My Son Hunter

Gina Carano Joins Hunter Biden Biopic ‘My Son Hunter’

    By Anthony D'Alessandro
    Editorial Director/Box Office Editor

    @AwardsTony

    November 18, 2021 3:41pm

    AP
In a video that was dropped on YouTube today, former The Mandalorian star Gina Carano announced she’s boarding the Robert Davi-directed My Son Hunter which follows the U.S. President’s son and his scandalous business dealings and lifestyle. The pic chronicles President Biden’s youngest son, and his party lifestyle as he acquired tens of millions of dollars from foreign entities owned by Chinese, Ukrainian and Russian oligarchs.

Carano will play a world-weary secret service agent in the movie which is currently filming in Serbia. She joins previously announced cast Laurence Fox (Lewis, Victoria) who plays Hunter Biden and John James (Dynasty) who plays President Joe Biden.

“She is a world-weary secret service agent present at most of the Biden family’s dodgy dealings. She provides a voice of truth and Sardonic comedy over the absurd dealings of the Biden family and various Chinese, Russian, and Ukrainian oligarchs,” said the pic’s producer Phelim McAleer. “She is present throughout the film – commenting and sometimes narrating the absurd life and party lifestyle of Hunter Biden and the dodgy dealings of his father.”

“The story, the cast, the crew, the people, this is what makes art great and this is what we’re doing,” said the actress.

“I feel excited to be working with incredible actors, a visionary director and some new found friends as producers,” Carano continued. “The script was instantly intriguing and side achingly hilarious to me, especially after being newly exposed to the political realm in 2020. Robert Davi is someone who reached out to me as soon as I was ‘cancelled’ in Feb. 2021. I signed on in support of him and one of my favorite humans Laurence Fox. They both have always been actors I adore watching and now they both have become my friends and mentors. The icing on the cake was getting to meet John James, a wildly funny charismatic and lovable human. It is such a pleasure to be on the forefront of groundbreaking story telling.”

“When we think of the modern female,” said Davi, “we look to women that are intelligent, feminine, strong, nurturing and vulnerable and have a sense of humor. I have been blessed by knowing women who have served our nation … I wanted an actress who the audience would believe is capable of protecting such an iconic figure as Joe Biden.”

Disney decided that Carano wasn’t returning to future seasons of The Mandalorian earlier this year following her controversial social media posts, specifically on TikTok where she compared the political divide in the U.S. to that of Nazi Germany. She landed a role in Terror on the Prairie following the divorce with Disney, a pic she’s also producing with The Daily Wire. Her agency UTA, as Deadline first reported, also dropped the actress.

Los Angeles based Irish film makers and journalist couple Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney (Gosnell, FrackNation) are the producers on My Son Hunter.

Davi’s acting credits include License to Kill, The Goonies, Die Hard, and he’s directed and produced the movies The Dukes and Magic. He also performed and has the EP “New York City Christmas”.

Gina Carano and Ben Shapiro's filmmaking relationship is going about as well as you'd expect
The former Star Wars actor is mad online about comments on her Ben Shapiro-produced movie, Terror On The Prairie
    By Reid McCarter

Carano takes aim at what’s left of her career.
    Screenshot: DailyWire+

In the fall of 2019, the world was a different place. Donald Trump was the U.S. President, there was no COVID-19 pandemic, and former MMA fighter Gina Carano was a rising film and TV actor set to star in a Mandalorian spin-off. Years later, inspired by a heady cultural and political atmosphere that compelled lots of public figures to shout about changes to those first two points, Carano got herself fired from her very own Star Wars show because she simply could not stop tweeting stupid ****.

Smelling the first whiffs of rot emanating from the corpse of a newly disgraced celebrity’s public image, Ben Shapiro and his fellow Daily Wire scavengers decided to swoop on down to offer Carano the rare opportunity to join the ranks of its stable of entertainment luminaries, like Rob Schneider and Adam Carolla. At the time, Carano said her new partnership would let her “[use] my voice which is now freer than ever before” and that “they can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

Anyway, Carano is now on Twitter getting upset with people pointing out that her most recent, Daily Wire-produced movie has only made $13,000 at the box office.

Journalist Richard Newby quote tweeted a post mentioning an outdated box office figure for Carano’s latest movie, a western called Terror On The Prairie executive produced by Shapiro and starring Carano alongside a guy who’s credited under the first name “Cowboy.” Newby, responding to the alleged $804 Terror On The Prairie brought in (it actually seems to be a... much more impressive $13,115), wrote that Carano “didn’t just fumble the bag, she dumped it out, put it over her head, and cut off her air supply.”

TERROR ON THE PRAIRIE Official Trailer (2022)

Carano, whose other recent roles include playing a secret service agent in the Breitbart News-distributed Hunter Biden movie, responded to point out that it’s actually normal for a movie released on a streaming service to make no money. (It isn’t; they usually attract enough interest for even limited theatrical runs.) She continued, tweeting that she “didn’t fumble the bag I just didn’t go along with the sell out narrative, the online mob couldn’t handle that so they petitioned to have me fired & won.” Carano concludes her thread by saying journalists who make fun of her work with right-wing media outlets represent “the genuine bag fumble” since they’ve “sold out America and stopped asking questions to be liked by a fickle manipulated mob.”

As for other fickle, manipulated mobs, it seems that Carano’s new audience isn’t even all that keen on the movie, given that user reviews screencapped by @steinkobbe show commenters like “letsgobrandon” decrying the “woke nonsense” of films that depict capable women characters as part of their “feminist messaging.”

    Now she's too woke?

Some Conservatives Are Turning Against Gina Carano’s New Ben Shapiro-Produced Movie For Being Too ‘Woke’
    Josh Kurp

    JANUARY 18, 2023
There’s two ways of looking at the box office total for conspiracy loving Gina Carano’s most recent film, the Ben Shapiro-produced Terror on the Prairie (think: a grittier Yellowstone, but without the “woke” kisses). The charitable interpretation is that it only made $13,115 because it had an extremely limited theatrical reaction — we’re talking one, maybe two theaters — before being released on Daily Wire. The funnier interpretation is that it only made $13,115 because no one wants to see the fired The Mandalorian star in a low-budget Western — including some conservatives, via Indiewire:

Terror on the Prairie represented the right-wing media outlet’s most serious attempt at mainstream filmmaking to date, [but] it failed to resonate with its target audience. A new story in the AV Club revealed that there are still some fringe online personalities who thought the film was too “woke.” Many of them took to Twitter and IMDb comment sections to complain about the film’s male characters acting insufficiently masculine while allowing Carano’s heroine to save the day.
The people of Worth It or Woke? have spoken, and they are triggered:

the whole gina carano thing is SO funny. she came out spewing a bunch of republican bull****, lost her STAR WARS role, went to make her OWN movie, and now that its out, no republican wants to watch it cause she, a woman, is the badass protagonist – so its "woke crap"

    — 💙💜💖 (@sloppyposts) January 18, 2023
Daily Wire fans think Gina Carano’s movie is too woke because she plays a badass violent woman? Oh, the irony 😭😭😭😭😭 https://t.co/2djYyldS5K

    — Jeff + The Machine (@starwart1) January 11, 2023
all gina carano had to do was not be a moron on the internet and she would've had her own starwars spinoff by now. instead she's making "movies" with ben shapiro. bens fans think any movie starring a woman is "woke" so literally no one is watching them. that's a crazy timeline.

    — mr brightbeard (@thekwazz) January 14, 2023
In response to a suggestion that she lost millions by not being able to keep her beliefs to herself, Carano wrote, “I didn’t fumble the bag I just didn’t go along with the sell out narrative, the online mob couldn’t handle that so they petitioned to have me fired & won. I’m not sorry for that. I stood for what I believe the right thing to do was & the more time that goes by the better I feel.” She added, “The genuine bag fumble is sell out journalists like you who sold out America and stopped asking questions to be liked by a fickle manipulated mob. That is what you valued and that will be your legacy.”

'Star Wars' actor sues Disney with funding from Elon Musk's X
    AFP
Tue, February 6, 2024 at 2:22 PM PST·2 min read

Gina Carano, an outspoken former martial arts fighter-turned-actor, was fired by Disney in 2021 (Nick Agro)
A "Star Wars" actor backed by Elon Musk's X is suing Disney for firing her over inflammatory social media posts about the Holocaust, the pandemic and trans rights.

Gina Carano, who had a major role in the wildly popular Disney+ series "The Mandalorian" until 2021, filed a lawsuit in California on Tuesday claiming wrongful termination.

The suit says Carano was expressing personal political views but was hounded by an "extreme progressive" online mob, and alleges that Disney's actions and comments had damaged her reputation and ability to find work in the future.

"Today is an important day for me -- I am filing a lawsuit against @lucasfilm & @Disney," she wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The lawsuit is being funded by X, a spokesman for the company confirmed to AFP.

Carano, an outspoken former martial arts fighter-turned-actor, was fired by Disney for what the company at the time dubbed "abhorrent and unacceptable" social media posts "denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities."

One particularly controversial post shared by Carano appeared to liken being a conservative in the United States to being Jewish in Nazi Germany.

"Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews" because "the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews," the post said.

"How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?" it concluded, with a graphic photo of a Jewish woman being beaten in Nazi Germany.

Another post appeared to mock a person for wearing multiple masks during the Covid-19 pandemic in California.

And Carano had earlier drawn the wrath of members of the trans community for adding "boop/bop/beep" as preferred pronouns on her Twitter profile.

In a statement Tuesday, Carano said she had "never even used aggressive language" but had shared "thought provoking" posts with "respect & the occasional comedy."

Both her statement and the lawsuit allege that Carano was afforded less right to exercise her freedom of speech than some of her male colleagues.

Carano said she had been contacted by an X lawyer offering to take on her case after she publicly replied to an open offer from Musk to help anyone fired after using X to exercise free speech.

"As a sign of X Corp's commitment to free speech, we're proud to provide financial support for Gina Carano's lawsuit," said an official post by X on Tuesday.

The lawsuit does not specify the amount of damages Carano is seeking, but claims she lost a role on planned "Mandalorian" spin-off "Rangers of the New Republic" that would have been worth "$150,000 to $250,000 per episode."

Disney did not respond to AFP request for comment.
Maybe Disney can get Zuck on their side.

    Too soon?

    New Management

Gina Carano Finds New Management Team Amid Disney Lawsuit
The former 'Mandalorian' actress is in the midst of a suit against Disney alleging wrongful termination.

Gina Carano, who is in the midst of a legal battle with Disney over her firing from The Mandalorian, has signed with a new management firm.

The actress had been repped by UTA, but was dropped in 2021 around the time of the Disney firing. Now Carano will be repped by Rob Weston’s Straightwire Entertainment group and the actress adds that she’s working on a new television series.

“Rob Weston is the English gentleman who remains calm in any environment and has deep knowledge of this industry, as well as a really unique and keen eye for art and storytelling. I feel relieved to push the refresh button in signing on with Rob, and I am as ambitious as ever in this new chapter of my life and career. We are already actively working on a new television series that I am ecstatic about that is unlike anything I’ve done thus far and are actively attracting creatives from all over who are excited to collaborate,” Carano said in a statement.

“Gina Carano is not only an exceptional talent but a wonderful human being and we are thrilled to be joining her in the next chapter of her career,” Weston said.

Carano was fired by Lucasfilm after sharing a post on social media that read, “most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Naxi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

In early February, Carano filed suit against Disney and Lucasfilm alleging discrimination and wrongful termination, saying she was fired for voicing right-wing opinions. She also seeks a court order that would force Lucasfilm to cast her again. She had previously appeared in Fast & Furious 6 and Deadpool. Since The Mandalorian, Carano has appeared in Terror on the Prairie and My Son Hunter.
If I were invested, I would check to see who else Weston represents, but I'll leave that to any member here who cares...
