    What a funny thread, David

I'm part Chinese so I was given a Chinese name by my crazy aunt at birth.

陳興華 - Chen Xinghua in Mandarin, or Ching Hing Wah in Hakkanese, which is what my father's family spoke. Hing Wah is what is on my birth certificate. Mind you, that's not be confused with the Wah Ching. If you knew how many times I've heard that...

And being a Shaolin disciple, I have a Shaolin name:
    行龍 - Xinglong

That is informative. And if that applies to My naming, then Wow, I am seen as an anchor. And I am a guardian to the storehouses of Knowledge and Being.

And please remember, as I have previously mentioned on another thread, bawang means garlic in Tagalog!

And I don't think anyone here would disagree that bawang has a unique flavor and STINKY odor!

So who has Chinese names on their birth certificates?

I never really gave much thought to the adoption of Chinese names by non-Chinese. It's very common, I know, even outside the martial circles. And there's several standard phonetic Chinese conversions for Biblical names: ie. Ma Ke for Mark, Bi De for Peter (sorry, don't know the characters for those offhand).

I think I need an Jamaican name...

My Dad spent much of his time in Asia. His business cards had his name in Hanzi,

Wui Yum Kaht Lo Mun-William Kellerman
So, I guess that makes me,"Ah-Lik Kaht Lo Mun!"

(that would make for a cool bio:'Rik Kellerman's father travelled throughout Asia on business, and had him tutored by the best Gung-Fu Sifus of his time."
-alas, he never took me with him..:-(

"My Gung-Fu may not be Your Gung-Fu.
    Gwok-Si, Gwok-Faht"

"I will not be part of the generation
    that killed Kung-Fu."

    ....step.

    How about:

    Sales Mon

or Ma Mon (oddly, that would be surprisingly accurate considering the whole commerce angle lol, sorry if you're not eggheady enough to get that)

    Green Mon!

    Kungfu Mon!

    or

    Ted.

Kung Fu is good for you.

I actually do have a Rasta nickname because I do so much work in the Reggae scene. But you'd have to be rasta bredren to learn it.
