according to the modern research, shoes for the training are VERY important, but not the way people think. usually, the more simple, cheaper (and thin soled as i wrote before) shoes, the better.

Just had to pipe in and give a good ole "Hell Yah!" for mention of Billy Jack. Love those flicks (then again - I'd have to agree with David in that watching it later in life is a bit disappointing :P

    Gene,
You have anything good for CLF? I bought some Tiger Claw shoes waaaay back when, but it's time they get replaced. My running shoes don't work so well.

Consider the possiblity to practice barefeet: still a great option if it's not too cold, very good stability.

I like to practice barefeet or with the classic feiyue.

    Cheers

barefoot in open class = no good.

too easy to get disease when you cannot control the hygiene of others.

good thing to do as well if you own a school, forbid street shoes from being on the training floor and no bare feet.

It's common sense, good hygiene and disease prevention that any and all open schools should be adhering too.

    MRSA people.

Nobody wants it, so keep yourself clean, keep your gear clean and keep your shoes on.

I don't allow any shoes on the mats. Ever. I bleach them before class *and* after. The one time I caught staph was because I let someone wear wrestling shoes that they had also worn on high school wrestling mats. I still have scars on my arm and stomach from the blisters.

When practicing outside, I use these:

They're called Vibram Five Fingers and come in a variety of styles. You can get them in a lot of places. I get mine from Amazon.com.

You can run, climb, hike, etc.. in them. And they are waterproof.

Master Killer commenting on kung fu shoe fashion. Move over Heidi Klum.

No matter what condition felyue soft shoe I've used, I always use a real fiber type orthotic for arch support - not the cheap drug store stuff, but the kind that cost $30 a pair at a good sporting good store. A long day without them, especially a demonstration or dragon dance following a Saturday class, can be murder on the feet. Such a severe pain that even a free Chinese banquet and Ting Tsao celebration afterwards can't compensate for (well not totally at least).
