    Tai Chi Belly

What is it with the distended bellys of Tai Chi practitioners.
    I'm vain. I don't want one.

Its a "power belly' or "relaxed muscle", that's all.

Funny thing, I still do serious crunches and ab work but over the last couple of years of doing more "internal" work I noticed my jut was getting bigger.
First I assumed I was getting fatter
But the weight was more or less the same.
The thing is, my gut is much stronger.
I mean, we are talking full force punches and kicks, 2 x 4, bats, mother-in-laws, the works
I don't know, maybe there is something there ( probably fat).

Kempo teachers must have the best "power bellies" ever....

    lol!

long term incorret posture can also lead to a 'pot belly'.....although i would hope thats not the case for a taiji practitioner!

    Taiji Belly

Some of us are just old and have gotten a little overweight. Still do Taiji and find the belly no hindrance. Just too much good Kung Pao Chicken.

My instructor has the best answer ever for this question. When students, like me (Hey! I'm in shape. "Pear" is a shape!) ask why do we develop Tai Chi Bellies, he simply responds with:
Because you eat more than you practice. Practice harder.

How do you argue with that?
