    point sparring really messes things up for realistic fighting. i have to reteach my students who point sparred cause all the do is TAP you.

    It all depends on the training.
    I teach continous sparring to students at different levels, based on where they are at. As they progess, skill wise, the contact and speed increases. This gives them a chance to apply what they have been learning without the risk of injury.
    I also teach full contact fighting and MMA applications to the more advanced students.
    As far as competeing goes, I competed in full contact cmpetitions from 88-94 throughout South America, Puerto Rico, and the United States. Now, I do some point sparring every so often... it's fun, like a game of tag

    yeah, thats one benefit. point sparring can be FUN.....i agree.
