    Heavy bag.

Do you just practice sanda on your heavy bags, or do you do your traditional stuff too?

What about those of you who don't do forms, JKD etc., how do you impact train?

i just go whack on it... i find my most intense and profound practice time on it is best invested while under the effects of magic mushrooms - just enough to drop a few levels of pre-conceptions of what is or isn't an appropriate way to hit a hanging bag... imagine going into the mindset of a tiger with a system full of catnip.

usually i start off just doing boxing combos for a bunch of rounds then i take my gloves off and start doing my karate and tkd hand techiques, like palm strikes, swinging forearm strikes, elbows, ridge hands, etc.etc

they are not hard to do on heavy bags i just approach them like boxing combinations
instead of jab, cross, hook, it would be lead strait punch, reverse punch, lead ridge hand and the like

then ill start working combos with kicks or knees and usually end with alot of kicking practice either working on a single kick or working on a combination of them like low back leg shin kick to high lead leg shin kick, low side kick to spinning back kick

    Perv !

The HB is not a tool for fighting because, well, you don't fight it.
It can develop speed, impact force, muscular and cardiovascular endurance.
You can't practise "fighting" on it per se, since it doesn't hit back, counter or attack.
What you can do is, besides attribute building, is train attacking a "covered opponent".
My fist boxing coach used to say, and this was echoed by others when I brough it up, that the bag develops "power, speed and endurance on a defensive opponent".
In other words, you "fight" the bag as you would fight an opponent that is "covering up".
The angels you use, the footwork, is fairy typical on what you would do on that type of an opponent.
You can't train counters on a bag because it doesn't attack, nor can you train defense or stop-hits or anything that involves the bad "doing something" because ALL the bag presents to you is a "target", nothing more.

I use heavy bag for ranging and timing, tossing and throwing, cardio and structural work.

It's good for working combos and cardio too and that's mostly how I use it.
Kung Fu is good for you.

instead of bumping the trees or poles

we may practice kao da on a heavy bag.

such as forearm hitting, shoulder. chest, back and hip/butt

some would do knee and elbow or high kick with shin----

    as pointed out
    ]
it can be used to practice throw

    I wanted to add this:
You can use the standard HB for lots of stuff, but there are also specilalised HB too:
    Uppercut bag:

An older version of the uppercut bag:

    A wall bag:

    A clinch/striking dummy:

You need to do a lot more than just hit bags to call yourself training Sand Da. Now can you traditional stuff support your San Da training? It really just depends on the curriculum of the school. If you school trains realistically in its day to day activities then do some traditional stuff too. You just can't spend a lot of time doing forms, working dummies, and LARPing, if you are training for fights.
