    95% rule

I recently got this list of "suggestions" from a buddy of mine who does alot of meditating/qigong (doesn't train MA though) and I thought it was worth sharing...

    "Consider this...

What if 95% of the negative emotion, pain, anger, torment and dissatisfaction you experience were internally generated, or was an unnecessary reaction to the events of your life?

What if 95% of the things you do everyday you will not be able to recall 5 years from now? I.e. you couldn't say "oh on this day I was ****ed about dude cutting me off in traffic" or "oh yeah I went and got a gyro sandwich on May 2, 2010. The gyro guy gave me extra meat" if asked about it 5 years from now?

What if 95% of the factors affecting your health and longevity had some volitional component? I.e. it was connected to your personal choices, diet, lifestyle etc.? (obviously some people just get hit by a train or get leukemia and this is tragic.. but this is extremely rare.. maybe rarer than 95%).

Assume this might be true for a moment. If 95% of the "crap" in your mind is voluntary? Why do you hold on to it? Why is this "red dust" so important to you?

If 95% of the things that happen in your life you will forget in 5 years.. throw away in 5 years.. why are you hanging onto them right now?

If 95% of your fundamental biological destiny (your life, your breath, your existence) is in your hands.. why do you live like you are going to be killed by someone other than yourself?

When it's time to sit or do your qi gong.. remember.. consider what is the 95 percent.. and what is not!"
