    Anyone knows this Broadsword form?

    Hi everyone,

    Does anyone recognise this form?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mufHD...eature=related

It is quite often on youtube but I do not find any information from what style it is,
or more important if it is a traditional form.
Some name it Northern Shaolin, which is quite generic…
Another Youtube commentary said it is a standard Wushu routine,
which I doubt a little, it does not look acrobatic enough.

    Any thoughts?
    Thank you in advance!

Yes, it’s a Chang Chuan (Long Fist) form. It is basic beginner wushu. Early attempts at creating wushu forms were more traditional. I don’t know if it is a cut and paste of traditional forms or what. Flows like water though, fun to do.

the video is chopped up-the first section was the compulsory broadsword form based on the Fu Mei Dahn-dao-Tiger tail broadsword, which is a widely practiced traditional set.
'The rest of the form is just butchered techniques strung together.

Yes, I watched the whole video and it was indeed several different forms in that video. I was referencing the first form. Here is my video of the form . Done slowly for memory purposes.

And here is an old thread that also discusses the form.

Fu May Dan Do-basic northern sword form?????

I don't know the origin of the form.

I see some mantis Lok Hop Do in it, especially at the beginning and with a couple of the transitions. But there's a lot in it that's not Lok Hop Do.

Madame Wong Ju-Rong is who my teacher learned it from.

    her teacher/father was

    Wang Zi-Ping

So that's why I thought a Long fist / wushu connection.

Seven Star mantis has several mantisized long fist forms, from the Jing Mo, through Luo Guang Yu.

I would suspect that the southern systems also got their versions through contact with Northern styles, rather than the other way around.

Thank you everyone for your answers, it was exactly what I was hoping for!

I had not realized before that the set is the same as my CLF broadsword…
