NYC October 16 & 17, 2010: Qinna seminar with Sam Chin

    Hello everyone,

Sam Chin will be visiting and teaching a Qinna intensivein Manhattan, on October 16 & 17, from 12pm-5pm both days.

This is going to be a phenomenal seminar with Sam teaching entries to Qinna applications from the pushing hands range. If you are interested in either Qinna or Pushing Hands, be sure not to miss this seminar.

This seminar is going to sell out - last year's seminar sold out by October 9, and I expect this year's to sell out even sooner.

Please reserve your spot soon and, if you are from out of town, be sure to book your hotel as October in NYC tends to be busier than some other months.

    Full seminar description is below.

    Qinna (Chin Na)
    The Art of Joint Locking
    with Sam Chin

This weekend we will study Qinna (Chin Na), the art of joint locking. Traditionally part of all Chinese styles, today knowledge of Qinna has become rare.

Rather than focusing on specific techniques, Sam Chin will introduce us to a variety of entries, from which all locking techniques become possible.

By focusing on a handful of entries and developing familiarity with the structure of the body, the practice of Qinna develops the ability to react spontaneously to attacks, following the opponent's force instead of attempting to find a specific lock.

Here is what you will learn this weekend:

    1. Four Directions of Grabbing with your Yin side:

    • First Position from top
    • Second Position from inside
    • Third Position from bottom
    • Fourth Position from outside

    2. Four Directions of Grabbing with your Yang side:

    • First Position from inside
    • Second Position from bottom side
    • Third Position from outside
    • Fourth Position from top

    3. Spin to Tap:

    • Crossing Hand
    • Wrist Locking
    • Elbow Locking
    • Finger Locking

    4. The Eight Cycles - opportunities for Qinna applications.

    5. Overview of the Four Directions of Grabbing.

    Level: All, beginner to advanced.
Seminar Length: 10 hours of class time, 12pm-5pm, Saturday & Sunday
Equipment: Comfortable clothing, indoor shoes & large bottle of water.
    Note: Limited to 30 participants.
    Tuition: $200.00

Please note that this seminar will sell out. If you are interested in attending, please register soon - last year's seminar was full by October 9th.

Oct 16-17: Beginner to Advanced - An Introduction to Qinna from Pushing Hands

We have had quite a few inquiries about this seminar and I have answered some of these questions below.

Sam Chin will be visiting and teaching this two-day Qinna seminar on October 16 & 17, from 12pm-5pm both days. Both days will involve you practicing with partners as Sam shares his training methods with you. Sam welcomes participants to work hands-on with him - an invaluable experience.

    Beginners
This seminar is an introduction to Qinna from the two-person pushing/spinning/sticking hands range. If you are new to the internal arts, these partner drills will develop your sensitivity and awareness when working with others and allow you to feel and fix your own structure and alignment. As this seminar is focused on learning to find opportunities for Qinna, you will not be experiencing painful joint locks, but rather how to find and avoid them yourself.

    Advanced
While this seminar is an introduction to Qinna, we are going to cover the least practiced, and most important, element of Qinna - entries. Most Qinna classes deal with the mechanics of the locks themselves and not how to actually get the locks on a resistant opponent. While learning the mechanics of the locks is important, learning how to apply them is essential. Sam Chin will share his training methods for developing the skills required to actually use Qinna. Regardless of the style you practice, you are welcome to work hands-on with Sam and experience these methods for yourself. This seminar will provide you with a systematic method to train entries.

Open to all styles of martial arts
These methods are based on universal principles of human movement that may be applied to any art. We will have participants from variety of martial arts - I Liq Chuan, Taijiquan, Baguazhang, Xingyiquan, Goju-ryu, Hapkido, Wing Chun, Jujutsu, Kenpo, Eagle Claw and more. If you are looking for partner practice, you have come to the right place!

This is going to be a phenomenal seminar with Sam teaching entries to Qinna applications from the pushing hands range, and tons of partner practice. If you are interested in either Qinna or Pushing Hands, be sure not to miss this seminar.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at info@internalarts101.com.

See you on Saturday October 16 and Sunday October 17!
