Student has no business fighting, wants to anyway

I have a kid who has no business being in a full contact match, but he has his heart set on it.

I told him I would not support him, but he signed up for a fight anyway. I'm not going, not running his corner, and forbid any of my other students from helping him witht he threat of a permanent ban.

What say you? Am I being too hard on him?

    Experience is the best teacher.
Does he do any FC in the gym?
Why is he set on competition?

He thinks he's the next Andersen Silva but has only been training a short time. Any gym owner knows a kid like this... Came in the first day with TapOut shorts, UFC brand gloves, and his hands already wrapped (incorrectly). His first honest question was if the armbar escape in the Xbox UFC game worked in real life. He's 20, BTW.

He lacks basic coordination and is a slow learner, though he has improved somewhat since he began working out with me.

He fought once before he joined my gym. Lost in 45 seconds to a RNC. When he came in the first time, he told me he got 2nd place in his first fight....

I put him against some tough guys in class to prove a point and they worked him over. I busted his ass in conditioning to the point of where he could not physically stand and needed a puke bucket.

He just refuses to accept he's not ready, but I'm not in the business of helping people hurt themselves.

Well, you can tell him that WHEN he can beat the guys in the gym ( choose who ever you think is appropriate), he can compete.
Until then he has to train more.
But he sounds like a delusional idiot.

    Not enough context.

Why is this guy entering a fight if his own coach is telling him not to? Is he not ready?

Otherwise, if he's just being stubborn, it may be a good thing to let him get his ass handed to him early.

Sometimes the ring is the best place to learn humility. It sounds like this kid is severly lacking in that department, when his own coach/teacher is telling him he's not ready. One of two things will happen,

    1. He gets his a**ss stomped and comes back to you, at which time you tell him I told you so and than decide to let him back in your school or not.

    2. He wins and feeds his ego more and leaves to train somewhere else, which from the sounds of it would not be that bad.

It's up to you but usually guys that pigheaded won't listen to anything, so your probably better off without him there. My two cents.

Competition usually instills humility, but not always. I've been at this fighting game (training fighters) for around 17 years. I've had a fair share of people who simply were not as good as they thought and could not accept it.

In fact, the worst are guys who were ok, not great, but had ideas they were world champions...

If a guy books a fight on his own, you should boot him, period

I get the fact that you don't want to be in his corner, as this would send the message that you think he is ready.

On the other hand, what your students do on their own time is their business. If they want to help him out, that is their decision to make. They are your customers, not your children.

can not agree with this... or, if you really follow this line of reasoning, sure, it's their business, they can do what they want, but that doesn't mean MK has to then let them back into his school

people need to learn, you are free to do whatever you want, but then you have to face the consequences

Consequences meaning that doing what they want in their spare time means that you no longer do business with them?

I guess that's OK. Doesn't sound very smart from a business prospective, though.

I guess maybe stores like Macy's should start banning anyone who wears their clothes in public and looked stupid to teach them consequences.

People don't get hurt because they weren't ready for Mayce's wear. Big difference.

If they engage in behavior which you deem to be detrimental to your school, you have every right to remove them/deny them service

Would anyone think throwing out a guy who sells drugs "in their spare time" wouldn't be appropriate?

In their spare time, they still represent me. If they don't like that, they don't have to do business with me.
