Joe Rogan Faces New Criticism for Promoting ‘Antisemitic Tropes About Jews and Money’ on Podcast

Joe Rogan has found himself facing new controversy after voicing antisemitic tropes on his massively popular podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience.”

In a recent episode featuring guests Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti, hosts of the “Breaking Points” podcast, Rogan stated that “the idea that Jewish people aren’t into money is ridiculous. That’s like saying Italians aren’t into pizza. That’s ****ing stupid.”

Rogan’s comments came during a discussion regarding Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who was recently removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee by Republicans after she faced accusations of antisemitism. Omar found herself under fire after a 2019 tweet condemning the American Israel Public Affairs Committee resurfaced. In the post, Omar stated that American support for Israel was “all about the Benjamins.”

The Muslim congresswoman has since apologized for the post, stating that she was “grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of antisemitic tropes.” Notably, Omar has been a regular critic of the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians.

“She’s apologizing for talking about ‘It’s all about the Benjamins,’ which is just about money—she’s talking about money,” Rogan continued on his podcast. “That’s not an antisemitic statement, I don’t think that is. Benjamins are money.”

“Disturbing that at a time of rising anti-Jewish violence, when growing numbers of Americans believe in antisemitic conspiracy theories, [Joe Rogan] would use his immense platform to spew antisemitic tropes about Jews and money,” wrote Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt in a tweet published Thursday.

Former congressman Ted Deutch, who now serves as the CEO of the American Jewish Committee, also condemned Rogan’s comments, stating that they employed “the same tropes that have been used to persecute Jews for centuries.”

“It’s dangerous to be so flippant in trafficking in antisemitic stereotypes,” Deutch continued.

Representatives for Rogan and Spotify were not immediately available for comment.

Rogan, whose show ranked as the most popular podcast of 2022 on Spotify, is no stranger to backlash. Seventy episodes of “The Joe Rogan Experience” were pulled from Spotify last year for the host’s repeated use of the N-word, a controversy that led to an apology from the podcast host. Rogan has also been the subject of criticism for promoting COVID-19 misinformation on his program — a practice that led to artists like Neil Young removing their music from the streaming service.

Joe Rogan Mistakenly Blasts Biden’s Mental Fitness Over Something Trump Actually Said

    By Todd Spangler

    The Joe Rogan Experience

Joe Rogan claimed many Americans who voted for President Joe Biden in 2020 are regretting that decision because of the 46th president’s alleged declining acuity — but in trying to prove his point, the popular podcast host incorrectly attributed to Biden something Donald Trump had in fact said.

On the Dec. 21 episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” which has been the No. 1 podcast on Spotify for the past three years, Rogan argued that recent comments made by Biden disqualify him from running for re-election in 2024 (h/t to Mediaite). Rogan claimed Biden voters are asking themselves, “What did I do? What did I choose?” and his guest, mixed martial arts fighter Bo Nickal, responded, “You just can’t listen to an interview [with Biden] where he’s saying some of the things he’s saying, it makes no sense at all.”

Rogan then claimed that Biden recently said that America “lost” the Revolutionary War because “we didn’t have enough airports.” Nickal laughed and said, “Yeah, what the hell? It’s crazy.”

Said Rogan, “If you had any other job, and you were talking like that, they would go, ‘Hey, you’re done.'”

The problem is, Trump actually made the comments about airports and the Revolutionary War. Shortly after the exchange during the show, “The Joe Rogan Experience” producer Jamie Vernon cut in to correct Rogan. Vernon played a clip that Rogan had cited, which was in fact a video of Biden mocking “stable genius” Trump for the comments about airports in the Revolutionary War. Then Vernon ran a video clip of Trump’s “Salute to America” remarks from July 4, 2019, in which the former president praised Americans’ military efforts in the war against Great Britain.

In the speech, Trump said in part, “Our army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHenry, under the rockets’ red glare, it had nothing but victory.” (Meanwhile, Fort McHenry was the site of a key American victory over the British navy in the War of 1812, not the Revolutionary War.)

To that, Rogan responded, “Oh, so [Trump] ****ed up.” Nickal commented, “That’s the thing about media these days. You gotta look into it.”
