    Qigong training - shoes

    Here is a funny one..shoes or no shoes, people have loads of views on this.

    Personally in my classes its always shoes, why?

    1.Hygiene - not everyone in class wants to train next to someone with smelly feet.
    2. Better ankle/foot support

    That being said it is nice to try no shoes in the park or your backyard.

    Thoughts?

    In the gym, after a hard training session, it's with shoes. However, in the comfort of my own home, it's barefoot.

    a reasonable concern

    not really - more like excessive support; it's much better to be barefoot - teaches u to actively use all muscles of ankle / intrinsic muscles of feet which r very important to have full connection from soles of feet to top of head; external support teaches the muscles to not work; also being barefoot u stimulate the sole of the foot more during movement - wearing shoes "dulls" this;

    much of the research in running these days demonstrates how increasing support also leads to increased injury both acutely and over time; hence the new barefoot running movement;

    in my teacher's qigong / taiji class, it's a mix of barefoot, socks and "kung fu" slippers;
