    Kung Fu -Tai Chi Lion Dance Champions

    Members of the Kung Fu Class held at TKO Fitness Center in the Village of Great Neck, taught by co-owner Sifu Raul Ortiz, competed at the 2011 International Kung Fu-Tai Chi-Lion Dance Championships held in Hong Kong on Oct. 29 and 30, at the Kowloon Sports Complex.

    The students and their instructor won three Gold Medals, two Silver Medals, one bronze Medal. Sifu Raul Ortiz won the Grand Champion Trophy for his outstanding performance in empty hand forms and the Jian form (double edge sword or tai chi sword).


    Accepting awards.

    Team Mantis USA members include: Raul Ortiz, two Gold Medals; Jonathan Gold, one Silver Medal and one Bronze Medal; Michael Weingartz, one Gold Medal and one SilverMedal; and Victor Sawchuk, video and photos.

    Competitors came from all over the world, the countries that participated were: China, USA, South Africa, Germany, Brazil, Venezuela, United Kingdom. A total of 400 competitors participated in this magnificent event.

    Sifu (Master) Raul Ortiz is an eighth generation closed-door disciple and successor of Grand Master Lee Kam Wing of Kowloon, Hong Kong. He teaches the style of Kung Fu called Mantis Boxing.

    His Mantis Boxing Kung Fu classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays from noon to 1:30 p.m.

    His Tai Chi class is held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon.
