There are many legends about Baguazhang.

My family system comes from Emei/Ermei Mountains in Sichuan.
Mouth Boxers have not the testicular nor the spinal fortitude to be known.
Hence they hide rather than be known as adults.

    There are many stories.

Dong Hai Chuan was reserved about explaining the origins of Baguazhang.

Some records say he learned from Daoist Monks and others say he created it himself, etc...

    Who knows.

Lineage and history get you only so far in your own training.

He was known as being trained in some fighting, mostly attributed to Lohan Shaolin.

yea lineage isnt as important as being able to use the system properly...nobody really knows...hell people dont even know if dong had a ***** or not, let alone where he got the system...most say its daoist in origin, due to its correlation with the 8 diagrams but who knows that might have been just added as a selling point.

    Thanks Dale,

In Baguazhang does the dan tien always lead the rest of the joints in the body (the joints always follow the dan dien) as in tai chi like one big ball?

or does each joint move related to its related joints or harmonized with its neighbour joints instead of follow the dan dien always as in taichi (several smaller balls, one at each joint)?

That is why Dr. Yang Jwing Ming and Shifu Liang Shou Yu had my teacher right one of the forewords in their Baguazhang book. Due to his being a fake and all that.

Anytime you want to come visit and feel what Jiulong Baguazhang is about feel free as my door is always open.

Hiding behind a fake KFO account is not only cowardly, it paints you as nothing more than another fool who takes the word of other cowards rather than seeing if the person has the goods or not.

    Dr. Painter has them.

    enough said.

Hey, for the record I dont agree with what Ron Blair is saying, however, my future looks like it'll be taking me to texas for school and Bagua was one of the things I was looking for to train while I'm away from my Sifu and brothers back at home in NY.

With that said, Jiulong Baguazhang was one of the few styles of Bagua that seemed to be available near Dallas and while I'm very interested in Bagua, there were a few things I couldn't be sure of from looking at the site alone. I actually gave up looking into it but I guess this thread worked out in my favor.

If I may ask a few questions:
    1. Does Jiulong Bagua as taught through Dr. Painter (or his lineage) focus on fighting/combat? I mainly ask this because I do train tai chi and I know how the training can vary greatly depending on the intention with which it is taught. I'm personally trying to avoid schools that train for health alone

    2. Is Jiulong Bagua very different from other families of Bagua? I've seen random videos of forms with names like 8 basic palms, or 8 mother palms, 8 old palms, etc. Is this type of stuff included in Jiulong Bagua?

We train for combat but also train nei gong and qi gong. We practice and train the same way we will apply it in combat. There is no wasting time walking the circle just to walk the circle. we train the same structure in both our qi gong and power training that we do in our application work.

Jiulong Baguazhang is a family system of Baguazhang. We have 8 palms but they are not like other systems. It is more based on the Yijing than most systems.

We sit, stand, walk, circle and apply.

Every class we Quiet Sit to train the mind and how to focus, then we stretch the body and joints through our Kai Men Dao Yin.

We then do power standing, and then move on to moving.

We walk linear at first and then learn to walk the circle.

Do not let net ghosts/mouth boxers lame attempts to smear my teacher distract you.

Come visit and meet my teachers, and you will see that they have the goods.

    Greetings,

I remember reading in Internal Arts Magazine (this was Dr Painter's magazine) about Li family Bagua. It consisted of the following:

    -Standing Meditation

    -Single Palm Change

    -Double Palm Change

    -Wu Wei (natural and spontaneous)

Later on in an issue Inside Kung Fu there was a announcement about the reconstruction of the Nine Dragon Bagua of Taoist Li Ching Yuen by Dr John Painter using Li family notes and advanced computer technology. He developed a form of many moves. The exact number eludes me and I am not about to dive into my magazines to find out--I have too freakin' many. Well, I thought this announcement was EPIC-- I'm talking National Geographic EPIC. I thought there would be interest in this from around the world. I was waiting for Dr Painter to take the next step with this. Have an exposition for the world to see. I was disappointed in that it did not happen. I thought it would have been great if he did.

I do not know if the aformentioned is mentioned at Jiulongbaguazhang sites. I did not look to see.

Now, about photos: I think Ron Blair got Dr Painter confused with someone else when it comes to lineage photos. Yet, Dr Painter did do a "cut and paste" that still makes me laugh. He wrote an article in Internal Arts Magazine that involved the taking of some substances, I think ornithine and arginine were amongst them, that would aid in fat burning and muscular development. He showed some before and after photos of himself. The after photo was fine. The before photo had his head and partial traps pasted to a flabby body. I did not think that Dr Painter was trying to deceive anyone at the time, per se. I did think he was a bit overzealous. He did catch some flack about that.

If it is true that Dr Painter teaches people in law enforcement, that alone says something about what he is bringing forward. I do not think any of those guys would want to study anything that would get them escorted horizontally amongst a sea of blue.

I have no dislike for Dr Painter at all. He is just doing his own thing.

do you have any evidence to support this potentially libelous claim?
