    Very good article as always.
My Hung Kuen is from Macao and my Shifu said that it originally was a "village" style and when I asked about the differences he said, in a nutshell, that old HK tend to focus more on power and conditioning in regards to fighting and that new HK, while still seeing them as very important, focused more on more techniques and footwork.
I don't think that is 100% correct and that people tend to fight the way they fight more naturally to them. That said I do see those "differences" myself.
It isn't a case of better or worse or whatever, it is simply a case of what one very good, very charismatic GM (WFH) preferred and passed on to his students.

Actually, it is very good description, I agree.

Good general concept BUT I would add outside footwork as per STAB and the DBMA "die less often" concepts.

I am familiar with both, of course, this is just one example, BUT - the concepts is still the same. I personally often end up in Kam Sau + Tiu Sau grab, as in S.T.A.B. program, but I have learned to switch to "baseball grip", as in the video, as it offers me more options in various "what if" situations.

You Have NEVER Seen a Kung Fu Movie Like This, Guaranteed!

Bruce Lee goes to the underworld. He is forced to fight 007 James Bond, Clint Eastwood, The Godfather, the Priest from the Exorcist, Dracula and even Emanuele (!).

Bruce Lee teams up with The One-Armed Swordsman, Caine from TV’s Kung Fu, and Popeye The Sailor Man.

Kung Fu is good for you.

I began in Wong Fei Hung Hung Ga, then studied two versions of "village Hung" that were also clearly modified later to be more mobile in footwork and to include the "long arm"... does seem that at some point, almost everyone started going along with that trend...

Then finally I studied one form of Hung Kyuhn that seems to be like the true old style described sometimes; no kicks, a cross patter that is done inside a box smaller than 5 feet by 5 feet, same names as WFH hung but techniques in share and application closer to what we think of as Hakka styles.

there was some great advice from this article.

What would be your most important advice for beginners/advanced students?

For advanced students: Constantly work to improve your basics rather than merely accumulate many forms. The key is to deeply understand the principles behind the moves and develop your body and mind to powerfully and intuitively express those principles.

If your goal is to be able to realistically use your techniques- sparring is a must. Don’t always go ‘full contact’- rather put on protective equipment and play! Animals learn best by playing and we are the same. If you are serious about fighting you will need to occasionally ‘pressure test’ by harder sparring or competition. Then take the lessons learned back into play and continually improve. If you always spar too hard you will accumulate injuries and Chinese Martial Arts is fundamentally about good health. Also, if the practise is enjoyable you will much more likely stick to regular training and not give up

That entire article is a great read. A very healthy and realistic view of TCMA, IMO.
Of course it seems like Pavel has a habit of posting good articles.

You can have Kung Fu in cooking, it really has nothing to do with fighting!
