For whoso comes amongst many shall one day find that no one man is by so far the mightiest of all.
maybe next time you talk to him you can ask him specificaly if his time at shaolin helped him in anyway that he is thankful for. experiences like that dont die easily.

I don't follow UFC so it was a surprise when I showed up to train at our school and he was there filming that promo. He has a black belt in BJJ so he's much more of a jiu-jitsu guy but got his start and some of his ethos from Sigung Steven Baugh. I would love to see him doing Tun da
I've known about the Lohan school for ages as two of my disciple brothers set up in Vegas (a long story which many of you know already) however I've never interacted with the Lohan school.

Roy “Big Country” Nelson’s years of Shaolin kung fu training paid off once again as he put Dave “Pee-Wee” Herman down on the canvas for a first-round, 51-second TKO victory earlier tonight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.
In Kirik Jenness’ article for MixedMartialArts.com, Nelson talks about his kung fu roots:
"The Lohan School of Shaolin, I actually got started in my Sifu's garage. I think I was 15 1/2, 16. Kung fu is the root for I would say 95% of all martial arts. I practice it every day."
The Lohan School of Shaolin, based in Las Vegas, offers lessons in various styles of kung fu.
About Shaolin Kung Fu
According to the Shaolin Gung Fu Institute, the Shaolin order of monks was founded around 540 A.D., by the Indian Buddhist priest Bodhidharma (Tamo in Chinese) who traveled to China to seek audience with the Emperor.
There he ended up teaching monks physical exercises patterned after "the movements of the 18 main animals in Indo-Chinese iconography (e.g., tiger, deer, leopard, etc.)." Thus began Shaolin kung fu.
"The Shaolin temple was threatened by traveling bandits and wild animals were an occasional problem, so the martial side of the temple probably started out to fulfill self-defense needs. After a while, these movements were codified into a system of self-defense."
Nelson attests to kung fu’s effectiveness in enhancing his grappling and striking skills. He also gives the ancient martial art system credit for developing mental toughness.

Now this is an athlete's body! Sans the mullet, I know Gene misses his. My favorite part was him shaking his belly on top of the cage after the win. Hilarious. I couldn't find a pic of that.
