    How long are your classes?

I was reading something about Green Dragon Studios classes being 3 hours long, with the first hour a warm up.

    Holy cow!

First of all, I can't imagine a training class lasting that long. Like the saying, you can train hard, or you can train long, but you can't do both.

And second of all, I can't imagine most people having 3 hours in a day to train. Jobs/families/sleeping/etc.

I mean that's cool if it works for them, but that seems like a long class time.

What do you think? How long is your class? What is your ideal class time?

Depends on what you are gonna do and what you are trying for.
Solo training can go anywhere from 40 min to 60 min, don't really need more than that.
    But classes are different.
At least 60 min of class + min 20 min warm-up.

Remember IronFist, we are talking classes here, not actual workouts that last that long, non-stop, from start to finish.
Only a Olympic marathon runner or triathlete could do that !

I don't have classes at the moment (money being a key factor, having moved away from the city my sifu is in being another) but I exercise for 1-2 hours a day on average.

One club I go to has class from 6:30 to 8 - 8:30ish depending on everyone's mood. Plus they have a free weight gym that's open until 9pm.

The other club I go to has from 6 - 6:30pm circuit training, then no-gi or gi Jiu Jitsu from 6:30 - 8 pm w/ open rolling from 8 - 9pm.

2 1/2 to 3 hours per day, 4 times a week. I have a few that come in on off times and work out as well.

The duration depends more on the temperature than the content.

True, it doesn't take much to run a 2 hour class or more of course.
Again, we are talking classes and not actual workouts.
Like IF said, you can go long or go hard, you can't go long AND hard.

I understand why monks are some of the most well known for their martial skill.

I'd go to a MA club everyday if I wasn't married.

(the beauty of Judo and BJJ in Michigan is that you have a lot of freedom to travel to other clubs since they like to have a diverse group of people to play with)

Length of class is really irrelevant, it depends on what you are using class for.
Teaching takes up A LOT of time, so classes with lots of teaching will run long.
If you are spending most to the time working out, then that is different.
Even then it depends on how you workout.
    EX:
10 rounds @ 3 min each with 1 min breaks = 40 min, but only 30 is working out.
    Most guys will do:
    6 rounds of bag
    6 rounds if mitts
    6 rounds of sparring
    18 rounds @ 3 min with 1 min break = 72 min.
Add to that the usual 15-20 min warm up and another 10 min cool down and you got 90 min.
