Sifu Share K. Lew passed away on July 15, 2012

I just wanted to pass on the word that in lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to help the Lew family with the transition to new beginnings.

Hong bao is appreciated or donations can be made at the link below.

    Condolences

Sadly, I never met or interacted with Sifu Lew. I only knew him through reputation.

Ny late friend and ververy good martial artist Pete Robinson had several top f;ight teachers in several CMA styles including Gin Foon Mak, Ark Wong and others.
An early teacher for CLF was Share Lew. Here is a KFO post quite afew yeaers ago from him on Share Lew who was in very serious fights once upona time before emphasizing Taoist practices:

    joy -

    > Just an FYI. Last Friday in San diego there was a birthday
celebration for Share Lew. He still teaches Tao An Pai- Taoist exrcises-
but no longer teaches martial arts. He used to teach Choy Li Fut in his
early days in America. He learned CKF from an uncle - but before that he
learned Tao An Pai in a Taoist mountain monastery in Southern China. He
apparently is in his late 80s- 88(?). Quite an icon in kung fu in the US. <

    IIRC, Tao Dan Pai.
    About his age.... "no comment".
It is something of a "tradition" amongst certain segments of that
population to refrain from publishing their actual age and/or birth-date.
One point about his age that might be worth mentioning is that most of
his contemporaries from mainland are long since deceased.... including
    one he'd crossed hands with
    "over there".
He declared him to be the "only good kung fu in NYC".
Didn't bother me in the slightest since the man was my grand-teacher in
one line.... which prompted my enthusiastic agreement.

Share Lew has "not taught martial arts" for longer than most martial
artists have been in the MAs.

    > A wing chun acquaintance of mine in San Diego is taking chi gung
instructions from him.,, and was at the birth day bash where some of
Lew's students told many anecdotes about him. He is aolso a TCM person. <

Who, in the past, seemed to favor acupuncture and/or moxibustion.

    > Apparently a good example of good health, coordination and longevity
    via TCMA and TCM. <

    You'll no dissent from me.

    Pete

Several years ago, when I injured my shoulder and was in the process of physical therapy, I went to Master Lew's house for a qigong healing session. I will say that the results were pretty amazing.

One of my student's father is/was a disciple of SK Lew.
He always invited me to seminars whenever his Sifu was around, and sadly, I never was able to attend for one reason or another.
    Now that opportunity is gone.

Share Lew was in the first good wave of kung fu masters in the US. He was reclusive-hence the gabby kfo crowd may not know much about him. He journeyed the whole waterfront- from early tong wars to healing.
