I have no problem giving my view on things, and do so when there is an actual topic about WC (even your other one on 'flow'). But really, this whole thread is a waste of time IMO.

And this isn't the first time you've asked this dumb question along the lined of 'what is wing chun designed for'. After your claimed 15+ years of training WC, if you still have to ask this question repeatedly, any answer I give would be wasted on you.

He does have a point here. Seriously asking Ving Tsunners if their Ving Tsun is to only fight other Ving Tsunners is like seriously asking martial artists "Does your martial arts suck?" and expecting people to just chime in like "oh yea, my training sucks a$$, totally ineffective and unrealistic, oh well, sigh."

that is to say, any person who knows they're training something in such a ridiculous manner would hopefully stop training there.

well, no need to apologize as I didn't find it offensive or anything. Out of curiosity, what other way could it have been taken, or to clarify, what kinda answers were you seeking/expecting?

this post was a failed attempt to get chunners to chime in on different venues of training an what sort of fighters they train against...

A lot of your posts are failed. I'll give you an example of why I think this way to try to help ya: When you phrase your 'question' with only 2 pretty silly options options, Wing Chun or Steet, you've failed from the start. And then go on to ask a silly, wide open question like 'what is wing chun designed for', what do you expect to get for answers?
And then following it by not answering any questions asked of you doesn't help you any further..

It's cool you want to start discussions here, but it helps at least think a little before you blast the forum with 6 or more threads with no better reason than "hey, I'm going to save the Wing Chun forum by getting people to talk about anything, doesn't matter what".
Oh, and it doesn't help that you fully support stans clips as good examples of WC training

Or heck, maybe I'm just getting grouchy in my middle age

"I don't know if anyone is known with the art of "sitting on your couch" here, but in my eyes it is also to be a martial art.

It is the art of avoiding dangerous situations. It helps you to avoid a dangerous situation by not actually being there. So lets say there is a dangerous situation going on somewhere other than your couch. You are safely seated on your couch so you have in a nutshell "difused" the situation."

lol. The only reasons you would want to meet me is because you think you're some internet tough guy wanna-be, or you just want to prove publicly that you're as bad in your WC as stan and the rest of the gang..

Now, if you really have a hrd-on for further embarrasing yourself in front of the forum by coming to 'spar' me and posting it up, I'll be more than happy to help you with that (I have no desire to do stupid drills or chi sau with a55clown mouth-boxers like yourself - I see no value in it)

But we all know this won't happen because you're not going to come to Phoenix to meet when you couldn't even afford the $10 matt fee after running your mouth to go and spar with Terence after he called you out - and he lives in your own city! And lord knows I'm not going to waste one minute of my time or money coming to see a clown like you.

** In the rediculous chance that you're actually serious, PM me instead of wasting bandwith and derailing further threads. Otherwise, you're better off just forgetting all of this idiotic internet challenge BS - it just makes you look dummer than your posts typically do.

It's a little short-sighted. I mean, most VTers will say that they are training VT for "the street", and "self-defense", yet in practice only spar with other VTers. Or not spar at all. Which is probably a lot worse than saying "yes, my VT is for other VTers only".

I mean, VT is one of the only places you'll see this phenomenon. I ask an Olympic wrestler whether he trains self-defense, and he'll say "no, I train for the sport of wrestling". If you press them, they will say "I think I could take down a lot of people in a self-defense scenario", but will be the first to admit all the other elements in a street confrontation including weapons, blindside attacks, etc.

Hm, yea I see your point, that last line is def true as well now that I look at it like that.

Well, I think the one minor but significant difference between the self-deceiving VT'er and the Olympic Wrestler's situation is that the VT'er actually does learn something for street/nhb combat, but he/she simply doesn't train it like that. The wrestler has useful skills, but he knows what he learns is for a specific rule set that is far from street fighting, though of course many skills can be transferred over.

But do you really think VT is the only place/style that displays this type of attitude? I always thought it was more of a McDojo type of thing.

No VT isn't the only place. It's all over the place like a disease.

That's why we need to keep it real.
