    True, but it wasn't the overhand I was talking about, its those swinging hooks from "down under".
    It's not obvious in the pad work but that paticular strike is thrown when you step to an outside angle. The reason its not done that way on the pads is due to the awkward nature of trying to hold the pads in a position that allows the striker to step to that outside angle. It's also important to note that it is recommended to follow up after that strike. With good position and follow up you should be able to cover yourself properly.

    I've, and my students as well, used it this way in sanda competition with success and you can see some examples of it used with the angular footwork during the sparring in the first clip.

    as for leading with the face etc. they are told not to do that but there is bound to be some human error during sparring

    My students. one is is more senior than the other. but both by my standards are still beginners.

    Thanks. they were just taught that drill moments prior to me filming it. but they've improved a ton since then.

    he has good balance though. That floor is slippery. But a good horse can survive the slipping
