    Inner Hook

When your opponent roundhouse kicks below your knee, if you

    - shift your weight on that leg,
    - turn your shin bone to meet his shin bone,
    - before he lands his kicking leg, you use your back leg to "hook" his standing leg from inside, and
    - push his upper body.

Since both of his legs are off the ground, he will fall. The window may be small but the opportunity is there if your timing is right.

Why haven't we ever seen this move used in any cage fight? Your thought?

I like to check by lifting and turning my shin, but only after they were condition for years it hurt like heck for the first 5. LOL
but its quick minimal effort and usually hurts them more.

that vid is a beautiful technique, but takes a lot to master and be quick and fluid enough

If you pause the clip when the kick lands, the attacher's hips are square and his standing leg is pointing forward, making the inner hooking technique feasible. This kind of kick wouldn't do any damage.
If the kicker rotated his hips and turned his standing leg correctly, the defender would not be able to hook. However, if he caught the leg with his left hand, he would have time to step to the correct angle before hooking. This variation is commonly seen in Sanda/MMA because it works very well.

You are righ. The "inner hook" works better when your body and your opponent's body is in a 90 degree angle. When your opponent spins, you have to spin with him in order to get that correct angle. If your body is parallel with your opponent's body, that will be a "lift" and not a "hook".

probably because no one in their eir right mind (part from ben henderson who does it on the calf of the front leg) kicks below the knee?????

    what would be the point

Agreed with comments that was a terrible round kick, and that would have low percentage of success as is against good kicker.

We do a variation of that in our sanda and mma though. If you timed it jsut right when you step in and turn could pull off without the 'catch' but we'd usually catch the kick. and have to have to make sure you won't end up in someone's guard when stepping in between the legs, pass the guard on the throw.

@frost, sometimes we round kick below the knee, but usually to the inside of leg, low cut kick following working your way in as part of a punch and kick combo, can work to uproot, off balance, would be followed up with more inside strikes or clinch, takedown etc.

How about just a simple "foot sweep" when your opponent steps in? The "foot sweep" is always aiming at your opponent's ankle.

The "foot sweep" is considered as one of the 10 best signiture moves used in UFC. It's rated #5. If you are good at it, you can turn a stand up fight into a ground game quickly.

    #10 - Flying Guard Pull
    #9 - Slam
    #8 - Leg Locks
    #7 - Hammer Fists
    #6 - Looping Overhand Right
    #5 - Foot Sweeps
    #4 - Thai Clinch
    #3 - Head Kicks
    #2 - Armbar
    #1 - Liver Shot

    Thumbs up

Yeah good point a foot sweep does this low kick too, and off angle to the outside as well.
