Can you really snap someone's neck by twisting it from behind like they do in movies?

You know what I'm talking about cuz they do it all the time in movies.

Some dude sneaks up on someone else from behind, puts one hand on top of the guy's head and another on his chin and twists and the guy dies.

Is that realistic? I've never been taught that in any TMA school, although they did teach us the ol' "bone through the brain" uppercut to the nose

It's probably a lot easier and a lot less jailifying to use a sleeper hold.

"In the movies" ...oh, there's a clue.

    Yes.
    And No.
    LOL!

You can break someones neck from behind, just not like they do it in the movies.

However, if you do it before they can tense up, etc, you can wrench their neck something fierce. Won't break it, but man... it'll be pretty terrible for them.

Sleeper hold is your better bet. Especially if you are fighting one of them guys who just gets angrier when pain is inflicted.

Another false thing about movies is that when you shoot someone, the bullet doesn't lift them into the air and throw them.

Also, when you punch someone hard in the face with bare knuckles, it doesn't make a Biff pow crash sound at all. ever.

For other information about what is false in movies, see 'all of the movie is false, it's a movie"

There is a correct angle and way of doing it of course but the reality is that unless the person is "semi-incapacitated" it is far harder then a simple RNC.
