Anyone seen the trend of Qigong forms comps....
Seems to be a completely at odds with the whole purpose of the art.

I have practically given up on the New Style stuff that is always been regurgitated
Most of it is a test of re-engineering and cleverness! There are even forms developed from the Mawangdui find so that says a lot about where this stuff is going. I even stopped competition due to the nandu stuff that is becoming performance art. If I wanted that then I would have become a ballet or ballerina gymnast!
Agreed....
You start being judged on external form, which is ok to a point.
However...the whole thing is about internal.
Instant win - if you run the micro cosmic orbit - hahahah
They are a little weird for me personally, kind of like group taiji form competitions are weird, but if there's support, we're happy to provide a platform for them to express themselves so.
We experimented with qigong competitions in 2011. We didn't hold it this year. If there was enough support, we might be inclined to hold them again in the future because from a promoter's standpoint, they are really easy to run.
The weirdest part is the IHQA rules for qigong competition, which are based on Modern Wushu Taolu competition rules. These rules include nandu for qigong. Seriously.

Yeah I hear you...
They have been trying to get them started over here in Oz.
The guy who runs IHQA is a friend of my Shifu...
He told me his friend used to run all the Wushu stuff - which is the reason why the IHQA rules are all the same.
He has switched gears and has carried the same template across.
