Thread: Online madness

    It seems to be quite the thing of late for sifus in the UK to set up 'online' wing chun courses.

    Here is another project soon to launch in the UK;

    I tend to agree that one can't learn wing chun exclusively through online courses and DVDs. I think it takes many years of training before one can even really train by oneself, properly, at home. It is really hard to spot one's own errors and an experienced sifu, IMO, is required to spot them for you.

    If I were going to sign up to any online course, it would have to be one where the sifu asks and wants to watch videos of his students training so he can correct them. Unless that basic service is offered, online course are just not for me. DVDs are a different kettle of fish entirely.

    There is another one offered by Sifu John Ryan Wahnish in NYC that I was considering enrolling in several months back (I live in Wyoming so there are no Wing Chun or other TCMA schools anywhere close). I am not sure about how effective the course would be overall but I got the sense that Sifu Wahnish spend a lot of time and energy trying to develop an online teaching methodology that had potential.

    I am very interested to hear the community's impressions.

    I trained with him in the 90s and appeared to be very skillful and in much better physical and psychological condition. Sad demise.
