Master Yang doesn't know where it is, partially because it is supposed to be one of those secrets not to be released to the outside world.

    Hi,
Probably Yong Chun of Master Su Ying Han, in the book complete Wing chun by authors Robert Chu and Rene Ritchie. Following Siu Lam s destrction ,several of Jee shin's disciples were said to have spread his teachings including FONG SAI YUK,and HU HUI GAN who brought the art to Guangdong. The basic curriculum includes MUI FA BAAT GWA (PLUM BLOSSOM EIGHT TRIGRAMS),

    nice clip!

What's the difference between Plum blossom and Baat gwa footwork strategy?

  13. #13
This diagram is exactly the same as I have from an old White Crane book!

Therefore I think it's fairly safe to say that it is the diagram that you talk of in your original post on this matter.

The Bagua stepping is shown in the illustration. As I understand it the Plum Blossom stepping is as in the Diamond shape.

What I don't quite understand is its importance to you as a Wing Chun stylist??? What were you hoping to discover from this!

One man's secret is another man's basic practice.

Fujian white crane is the mother art of wing chun. I am just cross referencing the baat gwa footwork patterns i've seen in some mainland wing chun linages, no big deal.

It's the code in regards to actual stepping strategies that's supposed to be one of those secrets not to be released to the outside world, not the 8 directions diagram. I agree with you, the 8 directions diagram is basic to all kung fu.

Pushed for time right now so I'll keep this brief:

Which style of Fujian white crane do you practice?
Me I do a synthesis of three lines of Minghequan (Calling Crane Fist).

Now to the diagram, look closely and it should be obvious where the stepping patterns are.

Fujian white crane is the mother art of wing chun. I am just cross referencing the baat gwa footwork patterns i've seen in some mainland wing chun linages, no big deal.
That sounds interesting. Please tell me your discoveries and thoughts!!!

Secrets are wonderful things ... they don't really exist but are just one person's or group interpretation: "one man's secret is another man's basics"

As you yourself wrote it is "supposed to be one of those secrets not to be released to the outside world"

"Supposed" being the operative word here!

Nothing secret about stepping ..more likely to find secrets in Dian Xue or Da Shou if at all!!!

Hope this helps a little ..........
