    From a rational point of view.

    On the one side I have stories told in thousands of places all across China, I have tradition from my lineage, I have knowledge of Wushu and I know for certain they would not have practiced military arts without some kind of unarmed practice, it is even idiotic to think so, I have the forms and techniques themselves from many different sources, etc.

    On the other side I have one line from one 17th century book which I have yet to see and translate myself.

    It makes sense to believe the stories in this case.

    I don't see Chinese obsessing about jousting and insisting it came from king Arthur.

    True story.

    That's funny, but I don't see it as an accurate description of what your verbal sparring partners are up to.

    I did get asked by Chinese Kung Fu students about medieval European knights and their swords and armor tactics. They were definitely interested, but I couldn't tell them much.

    Here's a fun video about reconstructing sword+shield and sword+buckler fighting. They've found some interesting ways to use a round shield offensively to jam counterattacks (and explored constraints on shield size). They use a combination of study of old manuals and practical experimentation.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkhpqAGdZPc

    They have an interesting method where they work with what looks like a weakness in the shield design, and conclude, in pretty certain terms, that fighters must have used the shield a certain way because otherwise they'd've died.

    I just enjoy this kind of stuff, European or Chinese or whatever. It doesn't have to do with "lacking faith in my culture" or any of that overdramatised weepy nonsense.

    A lot of Chinese are obsessed about blues music, an area full of old stories and anecdotes and historical uncertainties.

    Also, do a google image search on "Chinese Elvis". Pretty fun.

    I'm learning alot from you bawang.

    Seems like your trolling gong fu is Quite advanced..

    1) Comedic insults (where I enjoy your posts and I think most do)

    If you didn't make your point..

    2) Blend of fact with joke - usually unclear if serious.

    If it (2) is discredited

    3A) Abandon facts to save face, Continue with insulting jokes

    If your facts (2) might stand, and/or people don't take it serious

    3B) Post all facts you have in condescending manner without jokes

    If people accept (3B)'s facts

    4A) Back to step 1.

    If people in any way (3B) discredit or show them wrong

    4B) Attack the person themselves - their motivations, personal interests, or credibility using comedic interjections to maintain peoples attention... then return to step 1.

    Which is interesting since traditional Chinese music is based on the Pentatonic scale and makes use of unequal temperament...which is essentially the formula for acquiring blues melody....

    You can have Kung Fu in cooking, it really has nothing to do with fighting!

    ---- THEN
    --------- Blend of fact with joke - usually unclear if serious;
    --------- IF (discredited)
    --------- THEN

    ---------------- Attack the person themselves, their motivations, ...;
    ------------ ENDIF;
    --------- ENDIF;
