    Interesting article on punching and how to lessen the impact

    Yeah, its an OK article. I agree with Ziegler that if you are stepping into a straight punch you better be deflecting it at the same time! But the author didn't really stick to his theme very well. He started out seeming to discuss the idea that if you had to take a punch to the head, do you want to do it by stepping into the punch, or by "rolling" with the punch? He ended up using Ziegler's testimony to say that the old Marine adage he had learned years ago that one is better off stepping into a punch rather than rolling with a punch is true. Yet what Ziegler actually said is that you should step into a punch before it reaches its full power and DEFLECT it, not take it on the chin! That fits with what we do in Wing Chun. But all of the author's pseudo-physics discussion centered around impact. If you do what Ziegler recommends and what Wing Chun does, there should be no impact! So I give the author of the article a solid "C".
