    Is there a style for girl?

    Most would say Wing Chun.

    I would say Pi Gua or Tong Bei.

    There are extreme flexibility requirements around shoulder, back and chest for Pi Gua/Tong Bei.

    I was able to have some flexibility when I was in high school.

    I had tough time to drill the moves when I was in college or fully grown.

    As I age, the flexibility drills just got harder and harder.

    What do you think?

    Of course, all styles can be done moderately or in smaller ranges for girls.

    Maybe TKD.

    Makes use of flexibility and stronger muscles. Keeps them out at a distance. Good conditioning so they can run away.

    Depends on what they want to achieve.

    As a female studio owner, I would tell them to find the style that works best for their body style. Try out some classes in some places and see how they feel the next day. I'm short and stocky, so Kempo works well for me. But, what works for me doesn't work for everyone. Look at more from a strength and weaknesses stand point. Where do you think her strength would be?

    Yeah, but if you have no frame of reference then how do you know if it's working for you or not?


    People join crappy schools all the time and they can't tell the difference.

    My advice would be to go to all, or many, of the schools in your area. Most places will let you hang around for a class or two while you decide. After a while, pick the one that felt most productive in whatever area of development interests you.

    I had been thinking in terms of self defense against men, but what did you have in mind in asking the question?

    If it is for self defence against men, I would suggest a style that at least incorporates grappling and a ground game. When facing off against a larger aggressor, you will most likely end up needing those skills. The throat punch and a kick to the nuts and run away thing will only get you so far. And if security is a real concern, you wanna be prepared.

    That's why I said to go to some places and try out some classes and see how you feel the day after. Realistically, when people choose in the right there and then moment, that's when they choose the crappy school.

    1. Yes.

    Working on kicks and kicking combo.

    That was why I listed Tan Tui.

    2. Agreed on focusing more on grappling.

    Keep them coming.

    Ultimately, depending on the students' physical features and mental acuteness.

    Were you training consistently? And do you stretch daily now?

    If so flexibility should get better and better.

    So we have a tie between WC and Shao Lin.

    And one vote for TKD, BJJ as other.

    Pi Gua and Tong Bei requirements for flexibility are to extreme and more.

    I still can do most of the drills.

    However, some extreme drills are on and off for me.

    There is a regime for relaxation drills.

    For finger joints, wrist, elbow, shoulder, waist/back, hip, knee and ankle.

    We bend the finger joints backward as far as you can and then you flick the fingers outward.

    You rotate all finger joints clockwise and then counterclockwise.

    Some use the fingers to rotate 2 metal balls etc.

    You bend your shoulder/back backward as far as you can.

    --

    On and on.

    It would take an hour and half just to finish all the drills.

    Of course, you can focus on one joint at a time today. And work on another joint tomorrow.
