I post on the weekends more now.

The pandemic has diluted my sense of weekends. Plus there's that time change. And today is the anniversary of my own sheltering in place.

What an odd Pi Day... but then I suppose it's always odd.

Nice! I really like the way you use the Pi's equivalent by making a date and time. Very cool

    And coming tomorrow...

'Strong' solar storm to hit Earth on Monday may pose rare 'triple threat' from space
People across the world may be able to see the Aurora, a light show that is often seen in high latitude areas, this is expected to be seen further towards the equator during the storm

Physicists have predicted the exact time that a solar storm will hit Earth this month.

Data from NASA and the US-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted that the phenomena will impact the planet over the next two weeks.

The NOAA has predicted an 80 percent chance of a major storm hitting Earth on Monday, March 14.

Under their current predictions, there is a 20 percent chance that the storm will impact the UK.

People across the world may be able to see the Aurora, a light show that is often seen in high latitude areas, this is expected to be seen further towards the equator during the storm.

Issues can also be expected for amateur radio and GPS systems, particularly near dawn and dusk.

Dr Tamitha Skov, a space weather physicist tweeted yesterday: "Direct Hit! NOAA & NASA prediction models show solar storm to hit Earth between 12:00 and 21:00 UTC on March 13.

"Impact should be strong! Expect aurora deep into mid-latitudes, amateur radio & GPS reception issues, especially near dawn/dusk, and on Earth's nightside!"

She added this morning: "Solarstorm & Aurora 5-day Outlook: Busy week with a triple threat! A a big solarstorm storm is coming sandwiched between a glancing blow from a previous solarstorm and some fast solar wind."

A relatively weak C-class solar flare blasted from the earth-facing side of the Sun on Thursday last week.

While Dr Tony Phillips of spaceweather.com stated that these flares are usually unremarkable, this one lasted for nearly 12 hours.
    Will this affect my pie?

Pi Day 2023 deals: For the love of math, snag a discounted slice of pizza at these restaurants
    Amanda Pérez Pintado
    USA TODAY

Tuesday equals deals on pizza pies.

March 14 marks Pi Day, the annual holiday in honor of the mathematical constant π (pi), the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

The irrational number is typically rounded down to 3.14 hence why the celebration takes place on March 14, which has a numerical date of 3/14. The date also happens to be famed physicist Albert Einstein's birthday and marks the anniversary of Stephen Hawking's death.

While the day is really about math, many restaurants offer deals and discounts on circular food, including pizza and traditional dessert pies, to celebrate the holiday.

Why is Pi Day celebrated on March 14?

In 1988, Larry Shaw, a former staff physicist at the Exploratorium museum in San Francisco, linked March 14 (3/14) with the digits of pi (3.14) and celebrated the first Pi Day with fruit pies and tea. Shaw led Pi Day parades yearly at the museum until his death in 2017, according to the Exploratorium.

Pi Day became an annual tradition at the Exploratorium, and the celebration became an official U.S. national holiday in 2009. The U.S. House of Representatives resolution that designated Pi Day aims to encourage "schools and educators to observe the day with appropriate activities that teach students about Pi and engage them about the study of mathematics."

Whether you're a math lover or a food lover (or both), here are some tasty deals you can snag on Pi Day. The offers are only available Tuesday unless otherwise noted, and make sure to check if your nearest location is participating before heading out.
