    Your work is appreciated....

The Shaolin issue is THE issue and always my favorite each year hands down. It's sort of the update of what's going on in the Shaolin community and it's always great to hear updates on you Gene. I had no idea Yan Fei retired from teaching and you are with Shi Yantuo now. How is your training going? I am always amazed every year to see how many Shaolin masters are now teaching in the USA and how much Shaolin has blossomed here.

The publisher's corner is always kicks off the issue perfectly. Gene hit the nail right on the head when he said "Other martial arts struggles for self defense;Shaolin strives for self-enlightenment." There is so much truth to that statement. Looking back over the years I seem to recall how many criticized Shaolin (myself included) for what they thought it should be, rather than let Shaolin evolve into what it wants to be. I think Shaolin is now evolving the way it wants to. Until the next Shaolin issue, happy reading everyone!

    Thanks for that Songshan

But with a forum name like Songshan, I imagine I'm preaching to the choir here.

I wonder if Shaolin is evolving into what it 'wants to be'. That's almost Lamarkian, whereas evolution is more Darwinian. The evolution of Shaolin is a reaction to the modern environment perhaps, wanted or not. That's what makes the study of Shaolin such a fascinating microcosm to me.

Whatever the case, the digital edition of the MAY+JUNE 2014 issue is now available through Zinio.

    It's meme time again

With our run of facebook memes and the coverage of 2014 Tiger Claw Elite & KUNG FU TAI CHI DAY, our facebook is going to be busy.
