    Body Feel

The Fifth Law of the Fist as taken from the pages of the Wu Bei Zhi White Crane Manual:

    手逢空則入Shǒu féng kōng zé rù
Techniques will occur in the absence of conscious thought

To me personally, this is the most important of all the Eight Laws. Why? Because it deals with the single most important aspect of True and Original White Crane Gongfu!!! That of “Shen-fa jīng gǎnjué ” or身法 精感覺 “ Body-Method Essence Feel / Awareness” or as I term it “Body-Energy-Feel”. Shenfa is a term in Chinese martial arts that refers to the ways of organizing movement in various styles of practice. This is what we study. It’s not just aesthetic movement. It’s not just a collection of techniques to hurt others. It’s a study of the potentials for applied movement in the human body, as contained in traditional Chinese martial arts.

    拳打千遍 , 身法自然 。

Quán dǎ qiān biàn, shēn fǎ zìrán translates as “Practiced thousands of times, the body method becomes natural”

Zìrán (自然) - Natural - Is an extremely simple state of being and movement that becomes extremely complicated the moment we conceptualize it. Because it’s natural, we shouldnt have to think about it, we should just do it, be it. But as humans we have allowed ourselves to lose touch with being natural via developing physical practices and habits that form our postures and movements in ways that are socially acceptable but which lack naturalness.

Humans, as animals, are part of nature. Yet as members of society, we have developed in ways that remove us from the physical feel of our bodies. We confirm with the trends of the time. Being Natural and understanding this “Body-Energy-Feel is one of the defining aspects of being human and of White Crane Gongfu. It is one of our greatest advantages, allowing the species to survive and spread across the world and surviving varying physical environments.

A great deal of the lessons and training in our White Crane Gongfu is centred within restoring the body to operate at its full, and totally natural potential. In White Crane Gongfu we seek to return our bodies, our alignments, movements, energy expressions back into a more functional and natural state so that we may move according to our potential, unhampered by the constraints inscribed into us by a largely lost, ego-motivated and unnatural society

Thanks David, its from a book I am writing on White Crane and it's relation to the Wu Bei Zhi and not the mistranslated interpretations by Karate Folk and "Hysterical Historians" of what is essentially a Chinese White Crane Text.

It's good that some real White Crane discussion can take place on this forum instead of the current crop of lies being dished out by the "Martial Wh0re$"

This is the same as we are taught in Ban Chung Wing Chun.
We train the forms, practise and focus on the details until it should become natural and unthinking in use.

If we need to fight we are told to forget everything and what comes out comes out, focus on the moment and go with it there is no time to think.

    Thank you for sharing.

I believe this is the single most important aspect of our Gongfu!
