    The Martial Arts Kid

Cynthia & Don back in action film...

Comedian Graham Elwood Cast In "The Martial Arts Kid"
By Jerome Maidaon March 10th, 2014 at 4:58am

Graham Elwood has built a sizable following as an American comedian, actor and writer.

However, he is also a martial artist and it's that fact that that has helped make his recent casting in "The Martial Arts Kid" possible - and makes the funnyman pumped to be working on a project with martial arts/action movie legends Cynthia Rothrock and Don "The Dragon" Wilson!

"I know Jim (Wilson, who is Don's brother and co-producer on "The Martial Arts Kid") and Don through Gerry Blanck. Gerry is my Karate instructor in LA", says Elwood. "I'm trained in Yoshukai Karate and Eishen ryu Samurai Sword."

Elwood adds, "I feel very honored and excited to be involved with two martial arts legends!"

Born in Stoughton, Wisconsin, Elwood grew up in the Nakoma neighborhood of nearby Madison. After his parents divorced, he later moved to Evanston, Illinois.[1] While in Evanston, Elwood went on to captain his high school's football team and played lacrosse as well. He later graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Elwood hosted the Game Show Network original series "Cram" and the USA Network/syndicated game show "Strip Poker". From October 2006, he appeared in a DirecTV testimonial commercial as "Graham - Customer since '01". He co-starred with fellow comedian Doug Benson in "The High Road with Doug Benson" on the G4 Network and can be seen in "Super High Me".

Elwood has made TV appearances on CBS's "The Late Late Show" talk show and "The Sarah Silverman Program" and "The Benson Interruption" on Comedy Central.

In 2008, he co-founded and continues to host "Comedy Film Nerds" with Chris Mancini, a weekly podcast. Along with his US tours, Elwood has done 5 USO tours to Afghanistan and Iraq to perform for the troops. He has directed "Laffghanistan: Comedy Down Range" a documentary about his experience overseas, entertaining the troops and "Graham Elwood: Live from Afghanistan". Elwood has also created "Comics in Combat" to raise money for veterans.

Elwood has released two CDs filled with his comedic material: T"he Comedian's Got A Boo Boo" in 2009 and "Palm Strike Dance Party" in 2012.

Now comes "The Martial Arts Kid", Elwood says he will be looking forward to not only working with male martial artists like Don Wilson and TJ Storm, but a cast full of attractive women ranging from the incomparable Rothrock to Natasha Blasick, Vicki Vodar, Inga Van Ardenn, Sofya Skya and Tara Cardinal.

"I hope I get my ass kicked by a hot lady", Elwood says laughing. "(That's on my) bucket list!"

"The Martial Arts Kid" is scheduled to hit theaters in the Summer of 2015.

    The project develops...

Glenn Wilson Among 8 Real-Life Champions And Masters Added to "The Martial Arts Kid" Cast
By Jerome Maidaon March 13th, 2014 at 7:56am

Glenn Wilson is among an astounding EIGHT martial arts Masters and Champions officially added to the cast of "The Martial Arts Kid", co-producer James Wilson announced yesterday.

The other seven are: Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, Jeff Smith, Olando "The Warrior" Rivera, Eric Kovaleski, Rick St. Clair, Gerry Blanck and Alan Goldberg.

"From the beginning we wanted to show there is an audience and a hunger for a film with real martial artists at the highest level", says the film's co-producer James Wilson.

James Wilson says that should have been clear from the the film's inception and with the casting of action movie/martial arts legends Cynthia Rothrock and Don "The Dragon" Wilson - James's brother - as the two headliners.

"If you look at some of the big martial arts movie stars in America, some are not true martial artists and even those that are - they are not recognized Masters or Champions", James Wilson says."We wanted to rectify that and have the martial arts in the film be authentic martial arts and to have recognized Masters and Champions."

Glenn Wilson - along with the other seven names announced yesterday - certainly qualifies.

For starters, he is the head of Pai Lum Kung Fu, the style both Don "The Dragon" Wilson and James Wilson practice. and a 5-time World Champion.

In addition, he is an 8-time National Champion; been inducted into 6 Martial Arts Hall Of Fames; the Coach on the U.S. National Kung Fu Team from 1984-89 and a published author and renowned film fight choreographer.

As a competitor in the seventies he was a member of the U.S. Team and won five world titles and eight U.S. National titles. In the eighties, as mentioned, he served for four years as a coach on the U.S. Team.

Glenn Wilson has appeared in virtually every major Martial Arts magazine and accumulated a record of 13-0 as a kick boxer. He was awarded six Golden Belt awards in tournament competition while accumulation over 250 career trophies. During his successful career he has been inducted into six Martial Arts Halls of Fame, including “Inside Kung Fu Magazine” and the “World Head of Family Sokeship Council”.

As an accomplished author Grandmaster Wilson has authored many articles in several different magazine publications as well as authoring five different books pertaining to the Pai Lum Tao system that are sold worldwide.

As a personal protection specialist Glenn Wilson has secured the safety of such celebrities as Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Dianna Ross, The Beach Boys, Three Dog Night, The Righteous Brothers, Huey Lewis, Liza Minneli, Barbara Mandrell, Larry King, Don ‘The Dragon’ Wilson, General Scwazkopf and many more.

He has appeared in and served as fight choreographer for action movies such as Don (The Dragon) Wilson's movie "Redemption" in the United States and the movie "Shaolin Kid" in Europe.

"The Martial Arts Kid" will start filming this spring and is scheduled for a 2015 release.
This is starting to remind me of the Expendables. Anyone see Redemption or Shaolin Kid?

(FloridaToday.com) - Those who grew up watching Cynthia Rothrock or Don "The Dragon" Wilson kick butt on screen may have a chance to appear in their next film together.

Casting for "The Martial Arts Kid" is Thursday and Friday in Cocoa Beach. Rothrock, a five-time world karate champion, was one of the first American female martial arts stars to lead a martial arts movie. Wilson, a Rockledge High graduate and former bouncer in the '70s for the Anchor Bar in Cocoa Beach, has starred in more than 30 films.

"It's very, very exciting because let's face it. He's coming back here to do it in his hometown, to hire local people," said Space Coast Film Commissioner Bonnie King.

Rothrock and Wilson play a married couple in the film.

"It's a little bit like 'A Walk to Remember,' but with martial arts," Michael Baumgartner, writer, director and co-producer, said by phone Tuesday. "This is a film about a kid who needs better guidance and better friends."

The cast list reads like a who's who in the martial arts world with names like Tara Cardinal, Daniel Moncada, Matthew Ziff, Adrienne Camille, Alan Goldberg, Glenn Wilson, Gerry Blanck, Rick St. Clair, Eric Kovaleski, Olando "The Warrior" Rivera, and Bill "Superfoot" Wallace.

"It's a Clint Eastwood-y type of film," Baumgartner said.

For casting, bring headshots, and be prepared to do a screen test. Baumgartner, who spent time in Brevard when he was growing up in Orlando, is looking for extras. Lots of extras.

"We need a lot of people for school, extras that could be the students, extras for the parking lot, the hallways, the classroom," he said.

    'huge buzz'

For a project that's still in the Kickstarter phase, they've got decent viral marketing.
Interview with 'The Martial Arts Kid' star Natasha Blasick

    Natasha Blasick
    Bobby Blakey Dallas Movie Examiner
    May 16, 2014

Currently there is huge buzz on the upcoming film ‘The Martial Arts Kid’ featuring martial arts legends Don “The Dragon” Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock, but obviously they can’t do it alone. One of their co-stars in the film is the beautiful Natasha Blasick who has been shaking up Hollywood appearing in Paranormal Activity 2, Days of Our Lives, and Dark Crossing just to name a few. I had the chance to sit down and discuss her upcoming role in The Martial Arts Kid why she decided to be a part of this sure to be impactful film.

Bobby: There is a lot of buzz going around on The Martial Arts Kid starring Don “The Dragon” Wilson and Cynthia Rothrock, how did you become a part of this project?

Natasha: I met James Wilson at the party and realized how much great energy they had. They are such great people and saw what a great team they were building and getting to work with these martial arts legends. It’s hard to find a project that is so inspirational and so motivational, but that what they have here and that is what I love about this movie. It’s a movie with a heart and I am thrilled to be a part of something like that, that will inspire multiple generations.

Bobby: I know you are playing TJ Storm’s girlfriend in the film, but do you yourself have any kind of martial arts background?

Natasha: Not much. I do kickboxing classes at the gym and stuff like that and is really my only training in the martial arts, but I really enjoy it. Besides that I watched ‘Rocky’ movies (laughs) over and over, I don’t know how many times. I love them because they have heart; you can win it all if you give it all you got. It makes you look in the mirror and go ‘YEAH!’

Bobby: You have a wide variety of stuff on your resume, but being around these iconic martial artists, especially with you being a female and around Cynthia Rothrock who has always been strong female character in film, that we do not get enough of, do you think that will inspire you to expand into more martial arts training?

Natasha: Oh yeah, I really admire Cynthia. I think every girl wants to be a strong woman who takes care of business. She is amazing and looks great and I am definitely inspired and that’s why as an actor it is a dream to get to work with her.

Bobby: I know it is still early in production, but do you know if you are going to get to be doing any martial arts in the film at all?

Natasha: I hope so, I don’t think a lot, but wish I could do more. I just believe in positive energy and I just did another movie with some martial arts and the training brought so much positive energy to my life. I don’t know if I get too do much, but I would love it.

Bobby: You may not know as much until you get on set and you mentioned that you have done a bit in other films, but do you think your nerve levels are going to go up knowing you are going to be on set with these iconic martial artists or does it make you more comfortable as an actor being around people that you know have that experience?

Natasha: I think I will be more comfortable because I know they are in to what they do and know what to do and will feel safe. That is why I am very excited because sometimes on set you do something and those around you don’t really know what they are doing and it’s kind of scary, but here I think I am with a great cast of experts and cannot wait to work. I am intimidated as well. I met Don and he does project this greatness about him, but he is just such a warm hearted person and you can just talk to him. I feel like it is a great cast and I will be safe and really looking forward to it.

Bobby: I know what you mean, Don is one of those guys that is a really great guy and you start talking to him like you have known each other for years. This film is a bit different for him and Cynthia in their careers where they are usually the pretty hardcore action and violence, but here they are gearing it towards the family friendly type of film that can be shown to everyone. These films are bit hard to market, but do you think bringing in these adult action stars into the family action genre will help to boost these types of films to get more made?

Natasha: I like this angle because we can release something more positive. I think it is a great step to show this kind of film to a new generation instead of just the violence. I saw the kid and he is just an amazing little man. I think it is a great step for them using their skill and I think I am even more excited that it is a family film with values instead of just straight action. I am a huge fan of ‘Jerry Maguire’ because I want something that will uplift me and make me feel good about myself. I watch a lot of family movies that uplift you and I am proud to be making this film for a younger generation.

Bobby: As an instructor myself I am looking forward to this film because of the message it is bringing but also the chance to introduce my students to these icons in the martial arts but through something that has more of a purpose than just killing.

Natasha: I know, I mean I am from the Ukraine and right now there is freakin craziness going on, I can’t even talk about it. (Her voice began to shake with emotional tears) I just want to be a part of something that is making the world better and not just violence because that is what is happening at home now and it’s scary.

Bobby: I think it is wonderful that someone like yourself who is clearly so passionate about this that you will bring something even more to the film than it already has.

Natasha: It is an amazing group of people and I think team work makes the dream work and I think that is exactly what we have with these amazing artists coming together and will create something greater than you can imagine.

Bobby: I know filming is getting ready to start and you do a lot of your own training, but do they have you doing any kind of training to get ready?

Natasha: They haven’t told me anything yet, but I am just going to be training and prepare myself because I want to be the best I can be. That’s what the movie is all about that we all strive to be the best we can be and one of the goals in my life is to live up to my potential and using this as inspiration as a chance to better myself. They haven’t told me to train or anything yet, but I will be doing it on my own, I want to be a bad ass. (laughs)

Bobby: That is something that a true martial artist always strives for, so I think they are going to be lucky to have you aboard.

Natasha: I am grateful to know the whole team I just think they are such beautiful people and I am really happy. Every time you start a movie you have so many questions in your mind, but I am ready, excited, open and ready to work. I always do my best, but here I feel like there is a purpose to it.

Bobby: I really appreciate you taking the time to do this and cannot wait to check it out.

Natasha: Thanks, I really appreciate it.
