Greetings,
From Quincy Jones' "Back on The Block": Jazz Corner of The World/Birdland
Featuring rappers and a rare assemblage of Jazz legends, Quincy Jones "successfully" established the link with Jazz/Bee Bop and Rap. I say "successfully" because the link between the two is it's people, the ones who created it. Quite a few Jazz legends who appeared on this track/album passed away within a few years of this recording. This track received very little radio time on the black urban radio stations in NYC. It s absolutely epic:

Fishbone
I saw this group a couple times years ago. They had very good live energy and were touring w/ King's X. I think the lead singer, Angelo Moore had just published a comic book. Saw them again years later at the Warped Tour and talked to some of them. True artists IMO. Fishbone:

I've always found this song fascinating; the violent subject and the jovial way it's presented.

Native musician john trudell has some pretty good material out. rock with a native edge/ back-beat to it. poetic & a raw soothing energy the way it's arranged -
