Cool mini-documentary! Thamks for sharing, Frank. I like that old footage.
The 1906 San Francisco earthquake also played a key role in my grandfather on my dad's side being able to remain in the States. He had stowed away on a boat from Japan to Vancouver, Canada circa 1888, then gradually made his way down to SF. He was there during the quake. Immigration had been hassling him about his (nonexistent) papers, then after the quake, like a lot of people, he used the excuse that his "papers" had been destroyed in the fires.
