    Mirroring Techniques

Mirroring Techniques is a concept in the MCM Wing Chun system. It is a simple way to understand how a particular technique works and how to counter it my mirroring it. This video gives a few simple examples using common techniques like punch counter punch, tan da counter tan da, fuk da counter fuk da, lop da counter lop da, pak da counter pak da, gum da counter gum da and jut da counter jut da.

There is no REAL secrets in Wing Chun, but because the forms are conceptual you have to know how to decipher the information..That's the secret..

Interesting drill. I think I'm missing the point of this though.
Not to be a jerk, but what I'm seeing is that the initial techniques are so easily countered by mirroring. It could be said that this clip only helps to reinforce that the techniques don't work and that something needs to be fixed.

Hopefully you can better clarify the goal behind what you're doing here...

One of the ideas of the drill is use simple do what your attacker is doing ( use the same technique) but use it against him. To test it and see if its better the your oponents. Sort of like a pitcher testing his fast ball against another pitcher who has a good fast ball also. you simply compare each others side by side.

I agree with your strategy. In the Chinese GO game, if you don't know how to play, as long as you just put your chess at the "symmetric" position, the game may be boring but you will never lose that game.

In wrestling, there are a lot of moves that can be used to counter itself (such as cut against cut, spring against spring, hip throw against hip throw, ...). For example, if you use your leading leg to

    - sweep your opponent's rooting leg, at the same time, your opponent also use his leading leg to sweep your rooting leg,
    - cut (back hook) your opponent's leading leg, at the same time, your opponent also use his leading leg to cut (back hook) your leading leg,
    - ...

Will you win, or will your opponent win? The chance will be 50-50. It depends on who has faster speed and more power. Of course there are moves that cannot be used to counter itself. If you lift your opponent over your shoulder, he just can't counter you with the same move at that moment.

I'm sure the same strategy can be applied in the striking art as well. When your opponent uses front kick to kick at your chest, at the same time, if you also use front kick to kick at his chest, who will win? Nobody will know. It's still 50-50.

After your opponent has detected your strategy, next game if it's his term to make the first move, he can put his chess at the center (there is only one center on the GO chess board), you can never be able to play the symmetric game after that.

I'm sure in CMA, there are ways to prevent the symmetric game as well. If you can generate your momentum before your opponent can generate his momentum, you will have more "run down" power than your opponent has, you will win the game even if it's symmetric.
