    The Adventurers

Just heard about this one. I've met Fung and am a fan of Reno, Lau and Shu Qi.

AFM: ‘Adventurers’ Heads IM Global’s Expanded China Sales Slate

Having recently enjoyed a substantial injection of Chinese capital, IM Global is upping its Chinese film sales credentials.

The company has picked up global rights to Chinese romantic comedy adventure film “The Adventurers” and is unveiling it for sales at the American Film Market.

The film stars Jean Reno, Andy Lau, and “The Assassin” star Shu Qi under the direction of Shu’s husband, Stephen Fung.

Currently in post-production after shooting in Asia and Europe, the film tells the story of a thief (Lau) who steals two pieces of valuable jewelry during the Cannes Film Festival. Shu’s character is used as bait by detective (Reno) to lure the thief to Macau.

It is produced by Terence Chang, who spent over a decade in Hollywood as John Woo’s production partner, with Gravity Pictures, a production and distribution company that is on of the portfolio companies of Li Ruigang’s China Media Capital.

It is also one of the first films to emerge from Flagship Entertainment, the Chinese film production joint venture between Warner Bros., China Media Capital, and Hong Kong’s TVB.

IM Global will handle global rights with the exception of China, Thailand, The Philippines, and Singapore.

The company, which has an output deal with Huayi Bros. as well as sales and distribution support offices in Beijing, also has two other Chinese-language films on its current slate.

Starring Zhang Ziyi and Tadanobu Asano, “The Wasted Times” is a thriller about the 1930s Shanghai gangster Du Yuesheng. The film is in post-production and has been pre-sold to China Lion for the U.S.

Also on the slate is “Shanghai Express,” from Fundamental Films, the Chinese company that recently acquired a quarter of Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp. The film is an action comedy about a cycle courier in Shanghai who is dragged into a cat-and-mouse treasure hunt. It is directed by Song Xiao, and stars Chen He, Korea’s Song Ji-hyo and David Belle.

Majority ownership of IM Global was recently acquired by Chinese-U.S. entertainment conglomerate Tang Media.

    Adventurers

I'm just going to launch this thread already (giving the BO, part 3 will surely happen) and copy it to Wolf Warrior 2 and the Adventurers.

Headlines from China: Andy Lau Expressed His Interest in Playing in ‘Wolf Warriors 3’
    BY CHINAFILMINSIDER AUG 11, 2017

Andy Lau Expressed His Interest in Playing in Wolf Warriors 3

In a recent interview, Hong Kong movie star Andy Lau talked about his upcoming movie The Adventurers, his previous hit movie Infernal Affairs, and the Chinese film market. When Andy was asked about Infernal Affairs, he said that none of the Hong Kong action movies produced over the past 15 years achieved the level of success Infernal Affairs achieved, and co-production might have been one of the important reasons, as co-produced movies try to cater to audiences from different cultures and restrict filmmakers’ creative freedom. In addition, Andy commended on the uncertain nature of the movie industry, saying that he is not sure if he will be invited to play in Wolf Warriors 3, but he will be prepared.

And for reference, here's Wolf Warrior 1.

STEPHEN FUNG, SHU QI MAKE FIRST APPEARANCE AFTER MARRIAGE IN PRESSER TO PROMOTE ‘THE ADVENTURERS’
    Social | August 11, 2017

When Stephen Fung (馮德倫) and Shu Qi (舒淇) announced their marriage back in September 2016, the couple were working on the action film The Adventurers<俠盜聯盟> in Europe, directed by Stephen and costarring Andy Lau (劉德華) with Shu Qi. On their one-day off, Stephen and Shu Qi escaped the film set to take wedding photos and register their marriage. Their fellow cast members did not know about their marriage until after the announcement.

At the Beijing press conference for the action-packed film a few days ago, Stephen Fung and Shu Qi happily stepped on stage together, marking their first couple appearance since their union. Although the couple had Andy Lau standing in between them, reporters couldn’t help but to focus a lot of their media reporting on the pair.

In a clip they revealed at the press conference, Shu Qi slapped Tony Yang (楊佑寧) so hard that it shocked the cameraman. Shu Qi clarified, “I fake-slapped him at first but he (Stephen Fung) didn’t like how the camera angles were positioned, so I had to really slap him.” Stephen then quipped, “I don’t remember saying that to you.”

Tony said, “It was real even during the rehearsals! Nothing about that was fake. Big Sister slapped so hard even the staff two levels down could hear it!”

The Taiwanese actor then joked on the spot that he originally had a kissing scene with Shu Qi, but that scene was mysteriously cut on the day of filming. He joked, “Director Fung probably didn’t allow it!” Stephen quickly clarified, “No! It was originally a fight scene!” Andy sided with Stephen and said, “It’s true! The script never had a kiss scene in the first place!”

The promotional tour will stop by Taiwan before heading over to Hong Kong on August 22. The Adventurers will open in Hong Kong on August 24, 2017.

I finally watched this, and must say it was very entertaining. It reminded me a bit of the Fast and the Furious movies, but I actually liked The Adventurers more. Basically, it's a fast-paced, ultra hi-tech heist and chase movie. The acting is excellent (IMO), and the cinematography is beautifully done. It all takes place in France; Prague, Czech Republic; and Kiev, Ukraine. Of course, it has the complex situations where (almost) everything seems to work out perfectly for the protagonists. For anyone demanding absolute realism in their movies, they may want to skip this one. Otherwise, bring along your suspension of disbelief and enjoy the ride.

IMO, Andy Lau's career has been amazing. I first saw him in movies way back in the early '80s, starting with the Chang Cheh-directed ensemble kung fu film Shanghai 13, and the Shaw Brothers drama On The Wrong Track. And yet today he's still everywhere and still looks young. His output is still unreal; maybe surpassing even Jackie Chan in sheer numbers of films acted in. Eric Tsang's career has been almost equally remarkable, with more movie appearances than either Andy or Jackie.
