    Lion Repair Workshop hosted by United States Dragon and Lion Dance Federation!

    by Adrian Chua a.k.a Liondanceapp (founder of Traditional Arts)

    This workshop introduces you to easy and progressive techniques for repairing your precious lion. It aims at providing practical and effective training where you can experience firsthand how to identify and deal with different repair situations.
    The workshop is ideal for passionate lion dancers, hobbyists, or team leaders who wish to pick up a skill and pass it on to the next generation. It is designed to meet the needs of lion dancers as well as those with little or no experience.
    Mr. Chua will share with you practical tips and advice so even if you are a beginner you will be able to repair some of the most common damage that occurs to your lion.

    Outcome and Objectives

    Morning Session

    9:00 am to 1:00 pm

    You will learn how to effectively prepare glue for papering
    Be able to differentiate and select materials based on different needs
    Be able to use different methods of papering
    Be able to repair a broken mouth
    Be able to fix a loose beard
    Be able to repair broken ears
    Afternoon Session

    2:00 pm to 7:00 pm

    You will learn how to select, split, and prepare bamboo
    Be able to make a new mouth
    Be able to make a new ear
    Be able to install eyes
    Be able to repair smashed and broken pom poms
    Be able to cut and apply fur
    Open Session

    7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

    Free time to finish tasks that you were not able to complete during the day
    Opportunity to ask the trainer additional questions
    About the trainer

    Adrian Chua, also known as “liondanceapp”, is a lion head maker from Singapore. With a strong passion for the art of lion dance, he has dedicated his waking hours to deepen his knowledge on this traditional heritage as well as operating his company Traditional Arts, which he founded in 2013. His dedication and hard work has been well received by the Singapore government where he was invited twice by the Asian Civilizations Museum to demonstrate his art form. Aliwal Arts Centre also invited him to make a 1.5 m (4.9 ft) tall lion head onsite. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds, UK, and a Diploma in Arts Management. He is also a certified Singapore National Judge for dragon and lion dance competition.

    NOTES:

    Check-in is from 8:00 am to 9:00 am. Please arrive on time.
    Breakfast items will be available for the Morning Session (9:00 am – 1:00 pm) and there will be a provided meal for the Open Session (7 pm – 9 pm) portion of the day.
    Keep in mind that the lunch break will be 1 hour long and there’s a variety of local restaurants to choose from.

    Cost:

    Members: $225.00
    Non-Members: $250.00 (includes a 1 year USDLDF membership)
