    The Rhythm Section

Will Blake be convincing as an international spy or is this going to be like another Colombiana?

EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures just landed itself a potential new global franchise. The studio will team with IM Global and James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for The Rhythm Section, a female global espionage thriller to star Blake Lively, with The Handmaid’s Tale director/exec producer Reed Morano to helm the first of what they hope will become a franchise. Paramount acquired the film and will release it in most world territories.

Both Paramount and IM Global confirmed the deal. Said new IM Global chief Rob Friedman, “I’m thrilled to be working with Barbara and Michael on this very exciting project.”

    Harper Collins

Lively, Morano, Eon Production and recently exited IM Global head Stuart Ford aligned earlier this summer to the thriller that is fueled by the work of British novelist Mark Burnell, who wrote the script. Ford, who forged a relationship with Broccoli on the Toronto-bound Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool, will be exec producer along with Greg Shapiro and Burnell. It is worth noting that for the producers of the iconic male 007 franchise, this is the first espionage thriller they’ve done outside that, and they’ve chosen one built around a female protagonist. Production will begin in the fall.

Lively plays a woman who is on a path of self-destruction after her family dies in a plane crash — a flight that she was supposed to be on. After being told by a journalist that the crash was an act of terror covered up by intelligence agencies, and then watching that journalist get killed, the woman’s anger awakens a new sense of purpose and she rises to uncover the truth by adapting the identity of an assassin to track down those responsible. The new and lethal Stephanie Patrick is on a mission to fill the void between what she knows and what she is told.

Other novels in Burnell’s popular series include Gemini, The Third Woman and Chameleon.

Lively is coming off the sleeper summer 2016 hit The Shallows, the Woody Allen-directed Café Society and The Age Of Adaline. She also co-starred in the Ben Affleck-directed The Town. The cinematographer-turned-director Morano most recently helmed (and was DP on) I Think We’re Alone Now, with Peter Dinklage and Elle Fanning. That film is in post for a 2018 premiere.

Morano and Lively are repped by WME, the latter also by Management 360. WME Global brokered the deal.
This probably deserves its own indie thread from Bruised but I couldn't resist.

I could've sworn we had a thread dedicated to this project already. Maybe I was confusing it with Bruised.

Blake Lively Suffers Injury on Set of The Rhythm Section — Filming Suspended

    MIKE MILLER December 04, 2017 05:13 PM

Blake Lively sustained an injury while filming her new movie The Rhythm Section in Dublin, Ireland.

The film’s studio, Paramount Pictures, released a statement saying “filming has been temporarily suspended on The Rhythm Section as Blake Lively sustained an injury to her hand whilst shooting. Production will resume as soon as possible.”

PEOPLE has reached out to the actress’s representatives for more details.

On Sunday, Lively was spotted sporting a dramatically different hair color on set. In the film she plays Patrick, a woman who is forced to uncover the truth about her family’s deaths once she learns that the plane crash that killed them was not an accident. In order to solve the case, she has to adopt the identity of the assassin responsible for the killings.

The Rhythm Section is a modern adaptation of the first of British thriller writer Mark Burnell’s Stephanie Patrick series.

In July, Lively expressed her excitement to be working on the project. “Yes. Yes. Yes!!! I couldn’t be more excited to be bringing this incredible and complex 🚺 hero to life. 🎥🎞 ,” she wrote on Instagram alongside an image of Burnell’s original novel.

The film also stars Jude Law and is set to be released in Feb. 22, 2019. It’s currently unclear if the injury will affect the release.
I was in Dublin last week and saw where they were filming the scene in this photo, but never saw any filming. Here's a pic from it:

And I had nothing to do with Blake's hand injury.

Reed Morano was directing the movie that is now shutting down.

The Blake Lively-fronted spy feature The Rhythm Section is being shut down.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that production has been suspended, with crews being told to find other work, while Lively recuperates from a hand injury.

The actress sustained the injury while doing a stunt on the Dublin set in December. At the time, production was temporarily suspended while she took time to heal. However, sources close to the situation now tell THR that Lively's initial hand surgery did not go as planned and the actress must undergo a second surgery and will need more time to recover.

It is currently unclear when filming will recommence. One insider said that just under half the movie has been shot, while another source said it could be five months before the production resumes.

The spy thriller, which has a production budget around $50 million, is being produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, the company behind the James Bond franchise. Global Road (formerly known as IM Global) is financing.

The Rhythm Section is an adaptation of the first of Mark Burnell’s Stephanie Patrick novels, which follows a woman (Lively) that seeks to uncover the truth behind a plane crash that killed her family — a flight that she was meant to be on.

The Handmaid's Tale director Reed Morano is helming the feature, which also stars Jude Law. In a Jan. 5 interview with THR, Morano said, "[Lively's] okay. She's just recovering. The problem is that normally, that kind of an injury, you would have four to six weeks of rehab and then you would wear a splint. We have to go into stunts, so it's very complicated."

Paramount, which is handling worldwide distribution, has dated The Rhythm Section for a Feb. 22, 2019, release. It is unclear if that date will stand.

The producers on Monday confirmed the shutdown in a statement: "Hiatus on the production of The Rhythm Section has been extended due to the hand injury Blake Lively sustained while filming an action sequence on the action thriller at the end of last year."

I'll see this for sure, just to relive fond memories some rainy days in Dublin after exploring the Badlands.

Paramount Pictures has moved the release date of Blake Lively’s “The Rhythm Section” back two months from Nov. 22 to Jan. 31, 2020, the weekend of Super Bowl LIV.

The spy tale, adapted from Mark Burnell’s novels surrounding character Stephanie Patrick, is produced by James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson through their Eon banner. Reed Morano (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “I Think We’re Alone Now”) is directing the pic.

Lively portrays a heroine who adopts the identity of an assassin to get to the bottom of her family’s death in a plane crash. She discovers it may not have been an accident at all. Jude Law, Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Mays and Raza Jaffrey also star.

Lively suffered a hand injury in 2017 while doing a stunt on the Dublin set, resulting in a six-month delay in production. She underwent two hand surgeries before shooting resumed. Sterling K. Brown joined the film as production started again in Spain.

“The Rhythm Section” was originally scheduled to be released on Feb. 22, 2019 but was moved back to Nov. 22 — when it would have opened against Disney’s “Frozen 2” and Sony’s Fred Rogers biopic “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” “The Rhythm Section” is the second title to land on Jan. 31, joining United Artists’ “Gretel and Hansel.”

Blake Lively Is Unrecognizable As a Brunette With Blunt Bangs

    Blake Lively, is that you?

On Monday, the mom of three proved that she can rock any hair color with a behind the scenes shot from her upcoming movie The Rhythm Section. Dolled up as her character Stephanie Patrick, Blake shared a steamy picture, where she can be seen rocking a brunette wig and pin-up girl-inspired bangs, to her Instagram.

"#AllTheFilters," she captioned the post, which featured two different pictures of the Gossip Girl alum donning a mesh lingerie set that left little to the imagination with its ladder-like cut-outs. To complete the look, makeup artist Vivian Baker added a swipe of red lipstick to achieve the perfect retro glam.

Blake's followers were quick to compliment her hair transformation, one of which was her sister Robyn Lively. She commented, "Filter schmilter."

In the days leading up to The Rhythm Section's premiere, Blake has been treating her fans to some amazing throwback images from set.

Sporting a choppy blonde wig, the A Simple Favor star showed fans how realistic her makeup was for the film.

Standing next to a shot of herself in full makeup looking fatigued and worn down, she captioned the post, "Facetune Broken @therhythmsectionmovie (Both makeup looks by the incredible @vivianbaker."

Back in July, she showed off another one of her Rhythm Section looks, which included a short shaggy black wig, an oversized jacket and button-up shirt. "I spy with my little eye....," she wrote on Instagram.

As the film's suspenseful trailer suggests, The Rhythm Section wasn't an easy shoot. Based on Mark Burnell's novel, the film follows Blake's character as she embarks on a "path of self-destruction" and stops at nothing to find out who killed her family members.

In fact, production on the high-stakes thriller, which also stars Jude Law and Sterling K. Brown, shut down following a hand injury Blake sustained on set in 2018. This hiatus pushed the film's February 2019 release back almost one year.

We can't wait to see Blake in action when The Rhythm Section hits theaters on January 31.
She looks just like this woman I was drinking with in a whiskey bar in Dublin.

    Oh. Hold the phone...

Forget everything you thought you knew about Blake Lively! Since her days charming audiences on Gossip Girl, Lively has been associated with a girl-next-door accessibility—even when playing an Upper East Sider, she couldn’t help radiating SoCal optimism—but the actress is currently in reinvention mode. Her new film, The Rhythm Section, sees her donning wigs and taking on bad guys as a spy out for revenge, and last night at the New York premiere, she carried that edgy sensibility into the real world. After taking an extended break from public appearances following the birth of her third child with husband Ryan Reynolds in October, Lively arrived at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, looking like a femme fatale. In an off-the-shoulder black velvet gown by Dolce & Gabbana, leather opera gloves, and Christian Louboutin’s over the knee "Fabiola" boots, Lively was sexy and powerful. She was all smiles as she signed autographs and posed with co-star, Jude Law.

    PHOTO: GETTY IMAGES

Lively, who acts as her own stylist, regularly adjusts her wardrobe to complement the vibe of her latest film. Back in 2018, while promoting A Simple Favor, that meant dapper suits to match the style of her maverick character. So far, the press tour plan for Lively’s spy thriller has kept things sleek and mysterious, but it’s been heavy on hardcore accessories. The Lorraine Schwartz choker detailed with South Sea pearls and a 50-carat Colombian emerald was a statement piece, as were those dramatic leather opera gloves. After the premiere ended, Lively made a quick change into a floral shirt dress that skewed sweet but she kept on the gloves and boots, retaining some of the former look's daring spirit.
I'm attending a screener for this tonight. I doubt Blake will be there.

Watch for my exclusive fight-focused review this Friday when The Rhythm Section premieres.
