    The International Wushu Federation (IWUF)

I just realized we don't have a thread devoted to this.

We have many mentions, like IWUF gongfa & International Wushu Federation USA Team assistant coach, plus a lot in the various international games threads, but nothing stand alone. Fixing that now. With this:

The International Wushu Federation (IWUF) has signed a global partner cooperation agreement with Heng Yuan Xiang Group (HYX), a world leader in the textile industry, for the period from 2018 to 2021.

The signing ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where guests included IWUF executive vice-president Anthony Goh.

Also in attendance were Ruiqi Liu, an IWUF honorary vice-president and chairman of International Wushu Limited Company, and Zhongwei Chen, HYX’s general manager.

The ceremony, which coincided with HYX's 90th anniversary, highlighted the continued mutual cooperation as both parties work to promote the sport of wushu on the international stage.

It was marked by a wushu performance and a promotional piece titled Heng Yuan Xiang and Wushu both of which are said to have showcased the strong relationship between HYX and wushu.

Goh and Chen then formally signed the agreement.

"This signing ceremony symbolises that the IWUF-HYX cooperation is entering a new stage as the sport of wushu also develops faster and faster," Goh said.

"With HYX's professional and comprehensive support, wushu will grow stronger worldwide and more people will continue to be drawn to wushu.

"Meanwhile, the global promotion of wushu will also provide HYX a broad platform for demonstrating the quality, value and commitment to international excellence of the HYX brand."

HYX is one of the most famous and time-honoured brands in China.

Since its inception, it has continually made breakthroughs and innovations in the field of branding, they claim.

Beginning in 1989, HYX has sponsored the development of sports industries and in 2005 became the official sponsor for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Overall, HYX has been responsible for creating the official uniforms of the Chinese national team for three Summer Olympic Games.

"In the coming four years, the IWUF and HYX will engage in mutual cooperation as they take advantage of each other's vast resources, growing events in quality, scale and promotion" an IWUF statement reads.

"Wushu fans and athletes everywhere will continue to enjoy world-class events and benefit from the ways in which wushu can improve their lives.

"IWUF and Heng Yuan Xiang will further their mutual engagement and commitment to the common goal of the globalisation of wushu."

It is claimed the development of the IWUF and the sport of wushu can be achieved more expeditiously with the participation and support of sponsoring enterprises.

The IWUF Partnership Programme offers three levels: global cooperation partner, advanced sponsor, and supplier.

The world governing body has strict selection conditions and procedures for its top sponsors, the global cooperation partners.

    It'll spread the bribes out.

    Just kidding.

International Wushu Federation announce rule changes after Executive Board meeting
By Florence Almond Tuesday, 18 September 2018

The International Wushu Federation (IWUF) have announced changes to judging and marketing of the sport following its 35th Executive Board Meeting in Macau.

Proposed rule changes were presented and voting on to make, what it is claimed, will make wushu a more modern and standardised sport.

In the competition side, the structure of judges has changed.

Five judges, as opposed to the current three, will score the performances, increasing the objectivity in scoring.

A Judges Committee is to be established, separate from the IWUF to make it more independent.

The Committee will be responsible for all judge training, educational materials development, evaluations, certification, appointment for events, evaluation of performance, data keeping, and overall monitoring and management.

The independent group is due to be founded and functioning prior to the 2019 15th World Wushu Championships in Shanghai, where the Committee will take effect.

The head judge will no longer participate in the B Group's overall performance valuation and scoring.

The role will now only entail organising and implementing judges’ groups.

There is also a new process for appointing the jury of appeals.

Th IWUF President and/or the Executive Board will appoint members to the independent jury.

The IWUF will also change the current age categories to align themselves with those recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The IOC’s age range guidelines for junior athletes depend on the birthdate of the athlete, between January 1 and December 31.

The new age categories are set to come into effect at the 3rd World Taijiquan Championships due to be held in Burgas in Bulgaria from September 25 to October 2.

For the marketing of the sport, the IWUF Executive Board have announced the establishment of The International Wushu C., Ltd. (IWC).

The IWC is expected to oversee a variety of responsibilities.

According to the Executive Board, the IWC will manage and develop IWUF sponsorship programmes, provide consulting and supporting services for wushu competitions, events and promotions, develop and manage the IWUF licensed products, manage sponsorship and cooperation contracts, and ensure that services committed are delivered accordingly.

    IWuF sues Google

Google embroiled in Kung Fu controversy

An international Chinese martial arts organisation with headquarters in Switzerland has taken action in an Australian court against American tech giant Google over a Kung Fu controversy in Turkey.

The International Wushu Federation (IWUF), the world governing body for Kung Fu, has sued in the Federal Court of Australia to force Google, which owns video platform YouTube, to disclose the identity of the operator of the Wushuleaks Channel, which has posted videos alleging IWUF is corrupt.

Earlier this month, Federal Court Justice Helen Rofe ordered that Google hand over the account details of those responsible for the Wushuleaks Channel.

Justice Rofe said that IWUF was entitled to the details as it is contemplating further legal action, contending that the videos uploaded by Wushuleaks have infringed IWUF’s copyright and are defamatory.

The person behind IWUF’s action in Australia is Walter Missingham, whose LinkedIn profile states: “Walt is Australia’s highest-earning television documentary producer. He commenced his career as a fight choreographer and has over 30 years experience as a documentary filmmaker.”

He has produced several Bruce Lee documentaries including Intercepting Fist and Path of the Dragon.

Mr Missingham, the president of the Oceania Kung Fu Wushu Federation and vice-president of IWUF, told the court that the Wushuleaks videos suggest that IWUF is “a corrupt organisation, that it manipulated competition results and that it corruptly accepts payments for favours and is involved in match-fixing”.

While no further details are provided in the judgment, Turkish media outlets have previously reported that the videos relate to the couple who runs the Turkish Wushu Federation. They are alleged to have been favouring their three children, and have conducted tournaments where family members are both competitors and judges.

The videos, which are now disabled, also alleged that judges have been bribed.
Mr Missingham explained that traditional wushu is commonly known as Kung Fu and is a martial art originating in China designed for self-defence and as an art of war. IWUF was established in 1990 and registered in Lausanne in Switzerland as a not-for-profit organisation. Its president is the Chinese Minister for Sport, Gou Zhongwen.

The court heard that the IWUF has oversight and control over all official wushu competitions throughout the world and owns all the media rights, including videos uploaded to YouTube.

Mr Missingham told the court he became aware of 24 videos posted by Wushuleaks in late 2019. He said that this was in breach of copyright and contained defamatory remarks about IWUF which may lower its reputation in the eyes of the community.

Justice Rofe granted orders for preliminary discovery. Google, which was not represented, indicated it did not oppose the orders. However, whether the case proceeds further is yet to be determined.

In 2016 the Federal Court rejected efforts by the Hollywood producers of Academy-award winning film The Dallas Buyers Club to obtain the details of customers whose IP addresses had allegedly been used to illegally download the movie.

I'm amused that this is the first mention of Wushuleaks on this forum.

I'm amused who was the first mention of Wushu bribes on this forum! BTW, they are probably infringing on the iWoof brand of diamond-studded designer dog collars. Would be very amusing to see that get dragged through the common law courts:
