    Celebrities doing MMA

This is akin to our other 'celebrities' threads like Celebrities studying martial arts?, Celebrities studying Tai Chi?, Celebrities studying qigong, & Celebrities studying Buddhism. There's probably several already listed in the Celebrities studying martial arts?, but I'm not going to go back to pluck and copy those here. I will mention the few already on this subforum, specifically Demi Lovato and Green Power Ranger Jason David Frank There's also the Pro-wrasslers.

That's a lot of intro for this new thread. Let's just get things rolling with this:

    FIRST TO KNOW!
Caitlyn Jenner Training For Mixed Martial Arts Matches
Brings in MMA sex-swapper to take on haters!

Caitlyn Jenner is going to the mat to win back some respect! The former Olympian — once idolized as the “World’s Greatest Athlete” — wants to take up mixed martial arts to get people to quit picking on her! Caitlyn has been criticized by ex-wife Kris and the extended Kardashians clan, isolated from her kids and trolled by everyone in the world online,” spilled a source close to the outspoken advocate for trans people.

    Sharice Davids

Wow. She might well deserve her own indie thread here soon.

How Sharice Davids traded in MMA for a shot at political history
The professional fighter and lawyer is aiming to become the first Native American woman elected to Congress. Her journey has been different to say the least

On 1 November 2013, Sharice Davids stepped into the cage for her first professional mixed martial arts fight. Dressed in grey leggings with a pink band around the waist and a black sports bra, Davids paced around her corner of the cage, eyeing her opponent, Nadia Nixon, as the ring announcer roared their names to the eager crowd in Kansas City, Missouri.

At the sound of the bell, Davids leapt forward and landed a clean left hook that sent her opponent tumbling to the mat. The crowd cheered as Davids mounted her opponent and continued her onslaught. Not long afterwards, the referee separated the fighters and allowed Davids back to her feet. She had won her first professional fight in less than two minutes.

Sharice Davids won her first professional fight by submission in November 2013.

The Kansas native was calm, precise and brutally effective in victory – a perfect start to what could have been a fruitful career. Though it was clear that Davids belonged in the fight game, few realized that the stage she was destined to compete on would be the political arena.

The 37-year-old is one of the Democrats running against Republican Kevin Yoder in Kansas’s third congressional district. Since her campaign took off, Davids has received support from the American political action committee, Emily’s List, which announced it was putting $400,000 of Super Pac money behind her. Should Davids win Tuesday’s Democratic primary, she will run against Yoder in the general election on 6 November. As a member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, a Native American tribe in Wisconsin, Davids also has the opportunity to make history as the first Native American woman to win a seat in the US Congress.

For Davids, her dual lifestyle as a public servant and a fighter has existed since college. “I had my first [amateur] fight towards the end of 2006 and I finished my bachelor’s degree in May of 2007,” Davids tells the Guardian during a telephone interview.

As a child, Davids was fascinated with martial arts. She was obsessed with Bruce Lee, admiring his work ethic and discipline, and mimicked him by wearing a black belt around the house. However, despite her fascination with Lee, Davids did not begin practicing martial arts until she was a 19-year-old college student.

“I didn’t get to train because I was raised by a single mom,” Davids says, recalling her childhood. “There were three of us and it was just too expensive to pay for me to do martial arts practice.”

Davids started by learning capoeira and karate. She then moved on to taekwondo with a coach who had experience training MMA professionals. After several months together, the coach asked if she would be interested in fighting in a local MMA event. Davids had little interest in participating in what she believed was a barbaric sport. Over time, however, Davids learned more about the sport, as well as the training regimen that fighters go through in preparation for bouts.

By 2006, Davids was prepared to take a leap of faith. She made her amateur debut at the International Sport Combat Federation’s Midwest FightFest, and won in less than a minute. Victory was exhilarating but Davids decided to instead to focus on her studies at Cornell law school. She knew better than to try to make a career out of the sport she had grown to love.

“In terms of career options, I didn’t think about MMA at all,” says Davids. “I don’t know if I really thought it was a career path for many women. For someone like me, even in my prime, it wasn’t something I really considered.”

In February, 2007 — less than a year after Davids made her amateur debut — Gina Carano and Julie Kedzie competed in the first women’s MMA fight to air on live television — a groundbreaking moment for women who sought a career in MMA. Davids and a group of her friends gathered that night to watch the historic fight.

Within a few years, the sport had changed dramatically. The charismatic and supremely talented Ronda Rousey was on her way to becoming one of UFC’s biggest draws, and her sudden rise to stardom led to the creation of a women’s UFC bantamweight division. Suddenly, it seemed as though there were more female fighters getting into the sport than ever before. Even Davids began to ask herself whether her time had finally come.

When the UFC announced a 115lbs women’s edition of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) — a reality show that places fighters in a mansion for several weeks as they work their way through a tournament for a “six-figure UFC contract” — Davids jumped at the opportunity. “I had been so passionate about martial arts for so long that I felt that I wanted to at least try, which is why I took my first pro fight.”

Davids won her first pro fight by submission, but lost the second before signing up for the TUF tryouts in Las Vegas. She was overwhelmed by the scene in front of her: hundreds of young fighters grappling on the mats as judges looked on. “It was surreal,” Davids says. The competition was fierce and by the end of the day, she knew she would be taking a one-way trip back to Kansas.

“You train for 12 years of your life and you get three minutes to demonstrate that to a panel of people who will be deciding if you get to be in the UFC or not,” Davids says. “When I didn’t make it on [the show], I felt that – while I would always be a martial artist – I was done trying to take MMA fights.”

When Davids returned to Kansas, she shifted focus. She began to travel the United States and live on Native American reservations to work with the communities. She has since become a nationally recognized expert on economic and community development programs and initiatives for Native Americans. By 2016, she was one of 16 people selected to participate in the White House Fellowship program.

Davids’s time in Washington DC came during the Obama-Trump transition period. In many ways, it was the spark that kindled her career in politics: “It pushed me a little quicker into something like running for office,” Davids explains.

According to Davids, women are underrepresented in the US federal government. This is particularly evident in Congress, where she believes citizens “need to have the option to vote for qualified women.” Davids is not alone in her thinking — a record-setting 309 women, Republicans and Democrats alike, are running for the US House of Representatives in 2018.

Davids is also part of a record number of Native American women running for office. She is one of four Native American women running for congress, a group that includes Deb Haaland, who won the Democratic nomination in New Mexico’s 1st district.

“The fact that we are in 2018 and we are still seeing all these firsts is mind-boggling to me. When I stop and think about it, it makes me very proud to be a part of this movement that is happening in our country. I feel like all of us are playing a role in this. This unprecedented number of women running for office – myself and a couple of other candidates are native women – makes me very proud.”

Though Davids was working hard in pursuit of her political dreams long before she knew she had the opportunity to make history, she admits it adds a sense of gravitas to what she hopes to achieve, and gives her a feeling that only fighters can relate to.

“It is like being in the third round of a fight and you’ve already pushed as hard as you can in the entire fight and then you hear your coach yell ‘10 seconds’ and you get that last little bump of energy. That is what this feels like. I was already running for congress. I was already trying to make an impact.”

    Avenatti vs Trump Jr.

U.S. politics is so weird right now.

Fight night? Avenatti proposes MMA bout against Trump Jr. for charity

WASHINGTON — Attorney Michael Avenatti proposed Tuesday to fight Donald Trump Jr. for charity.

    Yes, really.

Avenatti, a frequent Trump critic who represented adult entertainment star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against President Donald Trump and his lawyer Michael Cohen, made the proposal during lunch with an NBC reporter.

Dylan Byers, a media reporter, wrote on Twitter that he was having lunch with Avenatti when the lawyer proposed "a three-round mixed-martial arts fight with Donald Trump Jr."

    Michael Avenatti

    @MichaelAvenatti
This would be for two great causes. I’m in.

Avenatti wrote on Twitter, "My portion of the proceeds from the fight will be split 50% to rebuilding Puerto Rico and 50% to @RAINN."
He added that he was just waiting for Trump Jr. to confirm the fight.

Avenatti has become a focal point in many of the major stories since Daniels' story of a payment to keep her silent about an affair with the president led to Cohen's downfall. He is also debating a possible 2020 presidential run against Trump.

Also, Avenatti represented families separated at the southern border and a woman who alleged sexual misconduct by Brett Kavanaugh during his Supreme Court nomination process.

Avenatti and Trump Jr. have bickered before, with each making fun of the other on social media.

An MMA fight would take things to a new level.

Singer Justin Bieber has challenged actor Tom Cruise to an Octagon battle via a bizarrely taunting tweet. Then, in a peculiar plot twist, MMA legend Conor McGregor offered to host the star-studded fight.
In what would be one of the strangest Hollywood showdowns in history, Bieber, 25, challenged the 56-year-old actor to a bout, boldly claiming the ‘Mission: Impossible’ star would “never live it down” if he denied the match.

While the ‘Sorry’ singer didn’t tag Cruise in the challenge, Bieber did tag UFC President Dana White to ask if he would be willing to “put on the fight.”

It’s unknown what, if any, event sparked Bieber’s violent urge towards the renowned Scientologist. Either way, Cruise has yet to publicly respond to the challenge.
I would pay-per-view this fight in a heartbeat.

Move over, Justin Bieber — this is the fight we really want to see.

Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke tweeted that he will fight on behalf of Dame Angela Lansbury, the Murder, She Wrote icon, after Star Trek actor Brent Spiner hilariously challenged her to a fight.

“I would like to challenge Angela Lansbury to fight me in the octagon!” Spiner, 70, tweeted. “If you back down, Angela, you are scared. And everyone will know it! Who will put up the money for this?!!!”

“I will defend the honor of Dame Lansbury for free!!” Van Dyke, 93, replied. “The pier at the sundown!! Be there, if you dare!!” Lansbury, 93, is not on Twitter herself.

Lansbury is the first non-action star to be challenged to a fight. The actress is known for her work on movies, TV and theater, starring in the 1962 film The Manchurian Candidate and playing the titular role in the 1974 Broadway revival of Gypsy.

She most recently appeared in Mary Poppins Returns alongside Dyke.

He'd probably whoop my a** in a fight

Good to see the Biebs come clean. Dad strength rules!

Justin Bieber Says Tom Cruise Fight Challenge Was Just a Joke: 'He'd Probably Whoop My A**'

Justin Bieber says he wasn't being serious when he boldly challenged Tom Cruise to an MMA fight on Monday.

Paparazzi spoke with the 25-year-old singer on Wednesday in Los Angeles, and he said he was "just playing" when asked about the fight. Bieber said he recently saw an interview with Cruise, which is how the tweet came about.

"It was just a random tweet," he said with a smile in a video published on TMZ. "I just do that stuff sometimes."

Bieber also had no problem acknowledging that he'd probably lose in a fight with the 56-year-old actor, who's known for doing his own stunts.

"He'd probably whoop my a** in a fight," Bieber cracked. "I'd have to get in some good shape. I'm really skinny right now. I think he would be out of my weight class. He's big, you know? He's got that dad strength."

Bieber raised eyebrows on Monday when he tweeted, "I wanna challenge Tom Cruise to fight in the octagon. Tom if you dont take this fight your scared and you will never live it down. Who is willing to put on the fight? @danawhite?"

Dana chimes in with a TMZ vid...

This totally deserves its own indie Bieber v Cruise thread, separate from the Celebrities doing MMA one.

    TMZSports.com
    EXCLUSIVE
    UFC'S DANA WHITE
    TOM CRUISE VS. BIEBER FIGHT
    IT COULD HAPPEN!!!

    6/19/19 12:30 AM PDT

Don't rule out a Justin Bieber vs. Tom Cruise fight in the UFC ... so says Dana White who tells TMZ Sports there's a very REAL chance the two could actually throw down in the Octagon.

After 25-year-old Bieber tagged the UFC president in a twitter post last week calling out 56-year-old Tom Cruise, White says he blew it off initially ... until he got some phone calls from "real guys" connected to the superstars.

Dana wouldn't say who he spoke with but was clear they're legit -- and they told Dana both Tom and Justin "really wanna do this fight and they believe that Tom Cruise would do the fight."

"I told them that if that's true -- and everybody involved really wants to do it -- we can talk."

In fact, White says if there's real interest from both stars "I'd be an IDIOT not to make this fight!"

And, to all the doubters, Dana says he didn't think there was a chance Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor would ever evolve into a real fight ... but that happened, right?!

Remember, Justin Bieber has trained with Floyd -- who once said the singer has enough fighting talent to be a pro boxer.

And, Tom Cruise was a star wrestler in high school -- and has a reputation for being one of the toughest actors in Hollywood who's been doing his own stunts for decades.

So, if they do agree to a fight ... it could be very interesting.

White adds, "That would be the easiest fight to promote in the history of my career."

After sending the tweet, Bieber said the whole thing was a joke ... but hey, people can change their minds.

    Stay tuned ...

    Fight at the fight

    BLUEFACE ATTACKED BY FAN ...
After Beating TikToker In MMA Match
    7/24/2021 2:58 PM PT

2:54 PM PT -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office tells TMZ they arrested Jonathan Parra, 25, last night at the Florida State Fairgrounds. He is charged with Trespass of an Occupied Structure.

    Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office
We've also obtained Parra's mugshot from his arrest.
Rapper Blueface won his Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship exhibition match Friday night against TikToker Kane Trujillo, but it was anything but a total crowd-pleaser, because one disgruntled fan jumped in the ring swinging ... and all hell broke loose.

In what was billed as a battle of the influencers, Blueface crushed Trujillo ... winning a lopsided victory by decision. As he celebrated -- hand up in the air -- the fan jumped the ropes and, it looks like one swing made contact with the rapper.

Blueface went ballistic as security swarmed the ring, tackling the jerk, but that didn't end the craziness. The rapper continued swinging and was held back as cops appeared in an attempt to control the situation.

The attacker was dragged out of the ring and eventually things calmed down and the fights continued as fans watched on FITE TV.

As for who got the worst of it ... it's still Trujillo. Blueface barraged him with punches ... his right hand was definitely on point.

As for the other influencers on the exhibition card ... YouTuber and TikTok star DK Money vs. Nick Ireland, and a TikTok battle between Evil Hero and Dakota Olave.
