Plum blossom mantis and Tai Ji mantis. The same or different?

I've read now twice that they are the same art(just a matter of preference to which title to use when referring to it) and have read the counter argument that they are in fact different(different forms here and there, structural display different, speed different, etc.)

The later variables such as speed I sometimes notice are different between practitioners per se.

Hoping someone w/ expertise or who has studied both more than dabbling could add anything? Thank you.

    Best,
    LTN

P.S.-Besides Tai ji mantis and Mei Hua mantis--you've also got the TJ-MH mantis. Confusing at times.

They are really just brand names. Maybe the easiest way to think of it is, Song Zide's descendants generally are known as Taiji TL, whereas Jiang Hualong's descendants generally (but not always) refer to themselves as Meihua TL. Descendents of Sun Yuanchang are Meihua TL. Taijimeihua is really Hao family TL. The differences in speed, power generation etc. are probably more attributed to the influence of key figures in each branch, rather than the tenets of the branches themselves. At the end of the day, they are all just Tanglang.

Will is more qualified to speak on the differences in the Greater Meihua family though, so he may have something to add.

There is also some difference in curriculum too of course. Most variance being TJMH, which has a lot more.

Dont think there's much more to add than what Tunks already said.

Although its worth mentioning that Hao family used to be known as just Meihua Tanglang, but was later renamed Taiji-Meihua. Some Hao family peeps use Meihua-Taiji... and just to add extra confusion, some Ji Chun Ting peeps (which is technically Taiji) also use Taiji-Meihua.
