A WIFE has confessed to stabbing her husband to death with a 14-inch decorative dagger during foreplay.

Jennifer Lynn Via, 49, originally maintained it was an accident but took a plea deal on Monday for voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Jennifer Lynn Via, 49, pleaded guilty to stabbing her husband to death with a 14-inch decorative dagger

Police said Via had told them a range of inconsistent stories, including one in which her husband Thomas Via slipped on water and fell into the dagger, the Huntington Herald-Dispatch reported.

The fatal 2017 stabbing occurred at the couple's home in Huntington, West Virginia.

The couple had been watching Kung Fu movies which led to violent foreplay with weapons, defence attorney Kerry Nessel said.

Via told police the two had been "horse playing," and Thomas was stabbed accidentally.

In another version of events, she claimed he "backed into a letter opener."

The dagger plunged seven inches into the victim's back, penetrating his heart, WSAZ News reported.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to court documents, Via had "a long history of domestic violence toward the victim, including attempting to run him over with a motor vehicle."

Charges against her date back to 2010, including malicious wounding, domestic battery and disorderly conduct.

Via was sentenced in Cabell County Court to 15 years in prison, but her sentence could be reduced at a hearing next month.

Last month, British woman Lesley Bradbury, 50, stabbed her boyfriend after he told her she had packed too many clothes for their holiday.

A Manchester court heard Bradbury descended into a "pathological" rage when she found out Gary Moore had taken some of the items she had packed out of the car for their New Year's Eve getaway.
