LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Veteran producer Jainardhan Sathyan has joined the production of the upcoming television pilot "Black Kung Fu Chick," from writer/director Rae Shaw ("Soap and Roses").

"I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting new project from the talented Rae Shaw," Sathyan said. "When writer/director Rae Shaw, shared her vision and first draft with me, I instantly got attracted to the pilot. I am very focused on developing and producing 'mentor-mentee' films and tv shows through my producing career and this show was a perfect fit on my slate."

Written and directed by Shaw, "Black Kung Fu Chick," is the tale of black teenage girl who discovers that learning Kung Fu and its healing principles will carry her on a long and challenging journey to becoming a medical doctor, but she also realizes she must also use it to battle those who aim to victimize her and those around her.

Casting is currently underway and Sathyan expects shooting to begin later this summer, featuring a talented lead actress along with a multicultural cast.

The pilot is in keeping with Sathyan's recent sports-themed projects which include the acclaimed film "Ice: The Movie," which focuses on the life of a young figure skater trying to realize her championship dreams.

"This is a very engaging drama where we present a young athlete trying to navigate life with the help of a sage mentor," Sathyan said. "Besides this project, I am also trying to specialize in the mentor-mentee genre and produce some very compelling content and tell some true-life stories of a few amazing coaches. My next project under advance development is about a football coach from New Jersey."

"Black Kung Fu Chick" is the newest project for Sathyan who has worked on such films as "A Dark Place," "A Stone Cold Christmas," "The Matchmaker's Playbook," "The Trouble with Mistletoe," "God's Club" and many others. His other work includes a number of television shows and films in his native India.
