    RIP Steve "Nasty" Anderson 1955-2020

I haven't been able to find an obit yet, but he was suffering from Parkinson's. Here's a facebook fundraiser for him posted last year.

Martial Arts legend Steve "Nasty" Anderson has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

For the past 2.5 years Mr. Anderson's overall health has been declining sharply starting with his energy, then strength, balance, sight, and now his speech.

After initial testing the doctor's had no conclusions as to his decline, since only months earlier he was as strong and energized as ever.

With no actual diagnosis he was assuming some form of dementia due to the symptoms he was experiencing. Finally a year ago a neurologist confirmed that about a year earlier Mr. Anderson had suffered a stroke.

Due to Mr.Anderson's health, strength, and general stubborness this stroke went un-diagnosed until many of the negative effects of not getting rehab had already set it. When the stroke was un-covered the doctor performed a memory test (for Parkinson's) which Mr.A passed with flying colours (anyone who knows Mr.A knows he has a crazy good memory!)

This ineffective test delayed his actual Parkinson's diagnosis by another full year, which has led great physical decline and to the URGENCY of this fundraiser.

Since Mr. Anderson was self-employed most of his life he does not benefit from a pension or any financial support, and just 3 years ago at the age of 60 he had twin babies Aliyah and Steve Jr.

Steve and Mary have three children on one income and with the cost of medical help and assistance up to now, it has been very difficult to get by.

For those of you who know Mr. Steve Anderson you know he's a FIGHTER and he's in for the FIGHT of his LIFE!

For the past 40+ years this man has been giving his best to his SPORT and to everyone he has come into contact with. Since his condition has gone public it has been simply amazing to see the outpouring of LOVE, RESPECT, and SUPPORT from friends, colleagues, and martial artists around the WORLD!

This man has literally given his LIFE to this SPORT and now he NEEDS your HELP!

All proceeds from this FUNDRAISER will go directly to his family to assist with extensive medical costs for his recovery.

There are so many advances in science/health today and with your SUPPORT Mr. Anderson is willing to do whatever it takes to beat this DISEASE to be a husband to his wife Mary, and a Father to his three amazing children!

Wow, this is a shock. RIP.

I never got to meet Steve “Nasty Anderson, but I remember seeing him way back in the early ‘80s at Ed Parker’s Long Beach Internationals. In the 90s, while competing at a tournament, I did meet his Kenpo teacher, Orned “Chicken” Gabriel, who had been a prolific competitor himself, and who also taught many of the well-known sport karate competitors of “Nasty” Anderson’s era. He was one of the judges, and seemed really down-to-earth.

*Edit to add: Even though Steve “Nasty Anderson and Ip Ching were not as famous as Kobe Bryant, why do these deaths of famous people always seem to happen in threes?
