this is exactly how I see most all applications in Shaolin taolu. Shifu might show you one, or two ways to apply thee form, yet in those couple examples, is usually an encyclopedia of variation and application options. fun stuff, never gets old, and as a philosophy (learning to do it one way, is learning a thousand ways, mastering one way is mastering all ways), is useful beyond fighting for sure.
