Paris-based Federation Kids & Family has picked up worldwide distribution rights (excluding China and Latin America) to a new animated adventure series from China’s Tencent Video and UYoung called Kung Fu Wa!

Currently in production, the 52 x 11-minute comedy stars a young girl who learns Kung Fu to protect an ancient scroll after finding a talking sock who turns out to be a martial arts master. Aimed at kids ages six to nine, Kung Fu Wa! s is set to premiere on Tencent later this year.

The Chinese streamer has a multi-year strategy to expand its content reach internationally and make more original programming. To that end, it signed co-pro deals with animation studios Sixteen South, Silvergate Media and Zelit Productions last year. Tencent also recently sold several of its original shows abroad, including Super BOOMi to Canal+ (France), and A Squad to KDS Kids (Korea).
